Do banks accept change

Might be a strange question, but after counting out my change jar i have #57 but a friend has said that some banks will only exhange so much change at once - is this correct?

    Xmas Saver!
The policy differs in different banks, and on the types of accounts.

Going by the bank I use, they say 3 bags of change, but they must be already bagged up as the correct amounts

    1p - 1.00
    2p - 1.00
    5p - 5.00
    10p - 5.00
    20p - 10.00
    50p - 10.00
    £1 - 20.00

I know a lot of supermarkets have the change machines, but they do charge anything upto 10% in commission.

abbey - I have my daughters accounts there, and was told as its a childs account they have to accept the change even if it isn't the full £1.00 of 1ps etc, but I bag all mine serarately put a note in, saying whats what, yes they do they weigh them, to check them, but it goes towards goodwill and one cashier has to smile through gritted teeth!
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

If you bank with Barclays, HSBC, Natwest or RBS some larger branches have cash deposit machines you can pay all the coins into and it will credit the amount to your account. :j

Why don't you use the change to pay at Tesco self-checkout for example- that way you do not have to worry about bank policy or coinmachines taking their 10% cuts. In some sense it will be more satisfying to see get something physical for all that change icon10.gif

I do that sometimes, but not with huge amount of change. Just enough to get rid of shrapnel in my pocket. I might try the bags of change in my wee piggy bank sometime - if I feel brave!

Crikey, my frozen stuff would be defrosted in the time it'd take to pay for it :rotfl:

I pay mine into HSBC via the counter, no machine at my local branch unfortunately. I take five bags of the correct amount in at a time. I understand that is the daily limit at HSBC but have never seen anything definitive to confirm that. Even if it was higher than that, I probably wouldn't want to take too much more in at once due to the weight.

The self-service at my local Morrisons has a hole for coins at the top (instead of a slot like Asda/Tesco/Sainsburys). You just throw in the coins and it counts them! Not sure if it has a limit.
