X BOX vs PS3

Hi everyone.
there are 2 boys in my house, one wants a ps3 for xmas, one wants an x box. they're aged 8 and 10.. i can only afford one, and i know which ever one i get they'll be delighted.
i'm just asking from the point of view of you grown up boys that probably have these AND a wii, which of the 2 would you recommend as being the better value.
i'm not going to go into detail on what they like cos they have never had a ps or an xbox but played both at friends houses and cant choose between the 2.

i just want you to give me reasons why you would pick either.
i'm a wii girl cos i love the interactive'ness of them and the exercise etc.
so, any advice on the other 2 would be gratefully received.

they wont be playing grant theft auto or any violent fighthing games or war stuff.. mostly fun stuff along the lines of what they play on wii i guess, mario type stuff, lego star wars that kind of thing.

thanks for any advice.

This has been discussed many many times on here.

I like the Xbox 360; I feel it has a better selection of games and better online services. However, for an 8 and a 10 year old, that might be largely inconsequential; I don't imagine they're going to be doing any online gaming.

I would primarily be inclined to go for the Xbox 360 Arcade as it's £100 cheaper than a PS3.

The Xbox 360 is cheaper but the PS3 is more versatile in that you can also use it as a Blu-Ray player for yourself. Otherwise both pretty much do the same thing really - but have to say that PS3 is more reliable and runs quieter (speaking from experience as I have both + 360 has recently died on me :( )

If your going on value. Then PS3 all the way. Everything you need is built in. No Need to buy a online subscription. Rarely has a PS3 been broken. Plus you get a Blu-Ray Player built in, what more could you want.

If you don't mind spending that bit extra then you won't be disappointed with the PS3, with it's built-in blu-ray when the boys aren't playing games you can watch amazing high def movies. There's some great games for it too like Singstar, Buzz, the MotorStorm series & LittleBigPlanet to name a few and if they do end up playing their mates online it won't cost you extra.....

But ask the boys what their mates have as that way they can swap games etc......
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • yea, thats a good idea. between their friends they have both. .. i had my eye on little big planet, so now you've probably decided me. thanks for that. .

Yes the PS3 has wifi built-in with no online subscription.............
