B&Q Reserve and DONT collect!

I decided to reserve a small christmas tree at my local store earlier and used the reserve and collect feature. An hour later I realised I could actually get a bigger one in the space so I reserved that at the same store. My email said collect after 7.00am tomorrow.

I had to pass the store this evening so I called in on the off chance my order was ready. I was amazed to be told that actually, neither of my trees were even in stock, despite them showing as being in stock earlier and allowing me to reserve via their website.

B&Q told me that their reserve and collect system is based on what is in stock at close of business the night before so it all seems just a little bit pointless to me

So, if you do want something from instore, far better to call them directly and ask them to save it for you!

Never had a problem with them.
Reserve and collect is always waiting for me, they even phone to ensure I will be coming to pick it up, and text when it is ready.
Did you actually want both trees, or were you just reserving them to have a look at in store?

Ok and whats to say it wouldnt have been delivered that night ready for the following day when it was meant too be?

Secondly you obviously didnt seem that bothered a tree would be sitting reserved for no reason so you can't really claim any sort of high ground here.

How do I know? Because the store told me, that was it, last of stock, no more nada.

My issue, which seems to have gone over your heads, is that the current system will allow you to reserve an item, but the stock check is based on when the store closed the evening before.

In simple terms. Store closes with a tree in stock on Monday. Tuesday morning someone comes in and buys tree, Tuesday lunch time I reserve Tree because its showing in stock and will continue to do so until Tuesday evening. Tuesday evening I get a phone call from B&Q saying "oops, sorry" despite having confirmation my tree is in stock AND a text message.

And yes, I wanted both trees so the "high ground" issue is a bit of a non starter Im afraid.

Mikey, I got 2 texts, one for each item I reserved. I dont reserve items just to "have a Look" I had already seen the items a week previously so I knew what they were. I wanted both trees and B&Q's system let me reserve both trees.
  • I see where you are coming from op.

You do not reserve things in let's say argos. get an email conformation then a call to say actualy your item is not avalible or worse get down to the store to be told your reserved item is not avalible.

The same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago, i ordered several christmas rope lights online, got my order conformation and a text message.

The next morning i got a phone call from my local store saying my order was ready to collect minus one item, i was a little confused as had a email and text conformation for my order so asked why this item was now not avalible.

And got the same answer as you did :0(
You would think they would have a more up to date reerve and collect in place but obveiously not. But i got the majority of things i reserved so it was not really a major issue for me.

    Thanks :o

I dont see why B&Q dont adopt a system similar to argos, because at this time of year their current system just doesnt work.

Please look at my post above, specifically the point where I mention the store telling me it was the last of the stock.
Added to that, if they were expecting a stock replenishment then they really wouldn't call me on the tuesday evening to tell me not to bother collecting as it was out of stock now would they.

So, YES I have a valid complaint,

You will find most large stores very rarely know exactly what is arriving and when.

And you didnt receive any call. They could quite easily have got a delivery and not made it.

So no you don't, your moaning because you tried to collect it early and are using information which could quite easily have changed before you were due to collect it.

The B&Q Stores of a large nature receive truckloads of stock a day, near Xmas I'll bet they are full of Xmas items.

While I don't work in B&Q, I do work in a large supermarket and we know when the last of the Christmas stock has left the depots, we will not be getting anymore baubles, lights or trees into our stores this year, all stock has been sent out.
