1MBps is not the end of the world, unless you are a heavy downloader. It's still 20 times faster than dial up. Anyone remember when they got their first broadband connection at 512kbps? I do, I couldn't believe how fast it seemed at the time.
I can now get about 7Mbps on 02, but it doesn't seem 14 times faster than that original connection.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Yes I remember that and it wasnt self install BT had to do it for £150 and it was around £40 for 512k
    Now I get between 15-17mb for £30

You have hit the nail on the head macman. I am a heavy downloader so it is the end of the world.

edit: I've checked the BT checker again and it has changed. It now says

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 2Mbps or greater.

    Was i worrying prematurely then?

Those line checkers only seem to return the current assigned profile on the line. If it's a new line it may well be that you wont know how good you can get until it's up and running.
  • Hi Patrick

I had the same problem after a week. I rang BT and they used remote access to change some of the settings on my computer and they checked the line etc. It's now very fast.

Hope it works for you as well!
