SUPANET problems (merged)

  • I have been with Supanet for 3 years. I am on 1mb BB with no download limit. The service is acceptable however I am looking to change so I chose the Talk Talk option agrreing to pay £10per month for their 8mb service ( we all know the one) Problem now is that Supanet will not provide its customers with MAC Codes and they insist that you have to cancel the service which can take up to ten days. Only then can TT order the BB for me, taking up to 15 days. I could be without any Int access for up to 20 days which is not really an option. Any ideas folks?

if you cannot get a MAC - then it will mean you will need to cease and reprovide unfortunately, and use dialup in the meantime
  • or the virgin pay as you go bband service - i think contract length is only 1 month

virgin don't do pay as you go broadband (at least I cannot see it on their site right now) - and even if they did, you would probably still have to pay the £50 charge if you leave with the first 12 months

... but still it ould take another 7-10 days for broadband to get activated on their line
  • They have me by the balls too..Yes the service is pretty good but the prices they are charging are totally uncompetitive and like the original poster stated they will not give out MAC codes which means leaving them means no broadband connection for a month because apparently thats how long it takes to clear the line and get a new connection

On this basis and since they have been in financial difficulty I suspect they won't be around for long anyway..I'm just looking for a sensible way to leave!

  • Why cant they give me a MAC code? Surely they must have to adhere to some code of conduct. I dont even mind paying for one (ie one months subs). I just want a code. Has anyone reading this had the same problem and overcome it in some way to help myself and mike_the_bike?

the MAC system is actually volentary..... though Ofcom may make this compulsary sometime soon

  • ..and go to another supplier without losing broadband for a month...Unlike 95% of broadband suppliers they will not provide you with a MAC code should you want to leave them and go to another provider

i don't know if this is right but we want to move from supanet broadband but they won't give us a MAC code. They just say that they don't have to give us one. Do we have to have a MAC code to move without changing the hardwear etc.
