I'm really annoyed and disgusted with John Lewis as well. I went to the collection point today only to find out that my order for playsets turned out to be hamsters instead just like you guys. Took me 5 minutes to explain to the guy that hamsters are not playsets. He spoke to the manager who then offered a complimentary tea/coffee card and suggest I phone customer service to sort it out. I called immediately, explained to the nice Scottish lady the issue and she apologised but said she could do nothing about it since there was no stock in the warehouse and in store. She also told me that at the time of despatch they had no stock of playsets so they sent the next best thing i.e. hamsters. Basically they were hoping that customers would accept hamsters as a substitute for playsets. No way in h*ll since I already have hamsters. I suggested they keep the order open so I will be first to get playsets when they come in stock but she said it was impossible since my card had already been charged. To end the dispute I simply had no choice but to get a refund and demand reimbursement for time and expenses wasted and they were happy to do that (£15 goodwill gesture) which is the least they could do.
So if anyone is going to collect playsets from JL stores make sure you check your order there and then or otherwise don't be surprise to receive hamsters.

Well done :D let us know if you still manage to find one from JL X
  • So I finally talk to .com after a manager from poole branch called them and told them to call me. They told her they called me once and they had not, so nice to start off with a lie! Said all he could was refund me and give £10 goodwill gesture. But he could not do this until John Lewis Poole had sent them back to them. But I do not have them and they are in property of john lewis!! He said no. So they had my money since sunday and wont give it back for a couple more days!!! I asked to talk to a manager he tried to get but got cut off. Did not know what else to do. his shift finshed 23 mins ago!! So said he would get them to call me tom! fabulous. I can say this is the worse customer service ever. Something John Lewis are meant to do well!!! NEVER will I shop with them again. Surely the fact I returend the item to them well never took it means I should have a refund?

I find all this disgraceful for such a big company as John Lewis but throughout this hamster hunt it is the big companies customer service that has been the worst. "Sent the next best thing"! - that's like ordering a cooker and being sent a fridge.

it is awful! we paid for particular items...so we should be consulted if they decide to change those items!instead, we are all left ton find out like this
did anybody actually manage to get a playset from that particular listing??

Eeeek whats happening with the JL Playsets anyone? I have 2 orders with them, both of which are being despatched at the mo...........Pleeeeeese tell me I wont recieve hammies?????

Im gutted for those who have had their orders cancelled.
  • I have just called up again after all they offered me was a refund and was offered £5 which i said no way that doesnt even cover half of the journey, so she spoke to the manager and they came back and said £15 is all they can offer and it will be put on my card within the next 3 days! Thats better than a kick in the teeth, would have preferred two playsets though!!!! I think although JL make alot of money they are going to be paying a few goodwill gestures over the next few days! What I dont understand is stock is stock, how can you buy more than there is, unless staff are reserving stuff or something????????
