I have been after one of the hamsters for my little one but I'm afraid after this story has broken about the "arsenic-like antimony" being "way above permitted levels" I am so glad I didn't waste my money! I know that the makers are saying it is safe but after the british watchdogs have had them tested I'm afraid I do NOT want to take the chance, my little ones safety is paramount, and if I can avoid him getting sick, then I certainly will! I could never give him a toy knowing that there is even a slight chance it could make him ill! Sorry just my view.

"Parents have every right to be concerned about the safety of this sell-out toy. Any level of chemical contamination of products intended for children is a serious issue. Antimony can be fatal in high doses and make kids sick even in low amounts if inhaled or ingested."

Surely they must have been tested before being put on sale in Britain.

Is it only Mr Squiggles there is a problem with? Are the others safe or not tested? xx

Right I am going to get Mr Squiggles out of his box, strap him under my nose for a few hours whilst licking his nose - if I don't come back you know he's toxic
  • Re the health scare - probably suggested by some sour puss who hasn't discovered this forum so didn't stock in time for christmas.

I am just going to unwrap my one and only precious hamster - Mr Squiggles. I'm going to do a safety check. I will place him my cleveage (in contact with skin) near enough to breath in (inhalation of possible toxins) and occassionaly give him a lick (ingestion of toxins).

I will let you know how I feel - if there's any headaches or dizziness. I am usually a sane person before I dedicated myself to hamster hunting................

Recalls happen all the time, because something 'could' happen.

How many people dress their babies in cardigans with buttons on?

In the summer dd had a dress which has been recalled (haven't got round to returning it but I will as they are refunding and it wont fit dd next summer lol) the reason because it has buttons sewn on it. The exact same buttons on several of her cardigans and tops.

These chemicals are harmful if digested in large quantities, realistically how many Mr Squiggles would you have to ingest for it to cause harm? I think its scaremongering maybe goodguides manager is having problems buying their own kids hammie stuff so is trying to clear the rest of us out the way so they don't have to pay ebay prices. :rotfl: Seriously though if the claims have any substance I would not give them to dd, but so far I'm not convinced we have anything to worry about.

I think its time we both sought some kind of professional help, I thought great minds thought alike not insane minds. :rotfl::rotfl:
  • It's all good and well to play this thing down as a mere scare tactic, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially where my baby is concerned.
