Am I right to keep my tax disc

Yes it's true that dealers can no longer cash in tax discs so you should keep it.
The salesman at Arnold Clark told us that they now lost about £1 million a year because of this.
We always take off the tax disc when we trade in the old car.0 -
The tax discs do not form a part of the car, they arguably have nothing to do with a car. They are just a licence for you to use the car on the road, when you pass a car on it is up to the buyer to get his own licence just as it is his responsibility to buy his own insurance.
The VED is transferable, but if it has not been specifically mentioned in any discussions then it should never be assumed that it will be passed on, because aswell as being transferable it is refundable. Not even in a private sale should you assume the disc will come with the car, you should always mention it at the deal closing stage to ensure you as a buyer recieve the disc. And a seller should also mention it to try to squeeze a little more out of the buyer.0 -
