Quick question? How do i UN-partition my hard drive?

If it's 98 or ME, yes, unless you have Nero or EasyCD already installed. There are some freebies available..
How big are the hard disks?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
My hard drive is minuscule-
c drive is 3.89 GB and I only have 288MB left
D drive is 5.40 GB and I have 3.28 GB left
(hence my need to un-partition)
As I have windows XP, have I got a program that will burn the partitioning program you suggested? Would that be real player?Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0 -
Is Windows XP on this machine, do you know if it is using ntfs filesystem or FAT (according to the site it only works on NTFS). In explorer, right click on the c: drive, and do a properties, it should tell you what sort of file system you have (FAT or NTFS).
Download this, extract it in explorer, it will be a .iso file.

then try this to burn that iso to a CD.

If that doesn't work, there is a more limited floppy disk version here:

Just to re-iterate, I haven't tried this repartitioning software, so can't vouch for it.. Make sure you back anything important up to CD first. (You should be able to do this by dragging and dropping files in explorer, to the CD writer drive).Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
C drive is FAT32
D drive uses NTFS
When you say extract to explorer-what does that mean (sorry)?Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0 -
Not sure if this product is going to work, I don't think it supports fat..
What I meant was, if you save the zip file to your desktop, then right click on it, and do extract all, and follow the wizard, it will extract a .iso file, then use the other link I posted, do the same, and run it. then point to the first iso you downloaded.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
This might work..
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gparted/gparted-livecd-0.2.5.iso?download
Save the iso to disk, use burncdcc to burn the iso to a bootable CD, make sure that your PC tries to boot to CD before hardisk (bios setting), then load this..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Ah...I see.
I understand now. I'll give it ago...give myself a challenge
(But at the same time, I'm thinking, shall I go onto ebay and buy Partition Magic??!)
Thanks again.Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0 -
Did you see my last post, might be a better solution (allows resize of Fat32 and NTFS)
Partition magic is the industry standard, but it aint cheap

Last time I'll say it, but don't forget the backup.. I've used PM 100's of times, and seen it go wrong a couple of times.. using freeware is a bit riskier..
PM was highly advanced software for it's time when it first came out.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

This is the biggest pain in the backside ever!
I just want to get rid of my bloody partitions!!
My computer is that slow that i haven't even begun to do the things you have suggested. Now that you've told me to back up lots of times and Ive actually started to take that bit seriously :-) i'm stressing out...
Ps do you not sleep either or are you in another part of the world?Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0
