Possibly. But is that not just a part of supply and demand?
Less homes available for sale, for whatever reason, = reduced supply.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Keep going.
And include the price differential in your theory, as it's doubtful liquidity in Edinburgh is substantially different from much of London, yet house prices are far cheaper.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

This is a lot easier to compare than the 60k vs 600k example from before!
And yes your glasgow house is preferable to the southern one (tho 50% further commute on the other hand). Although the leatherhead one just as likely to commute anywhere in the Thames Valley tech corrider as London itself. But either way this is a much better comparison - why does the London one cost 2.6 times the Glasgow one? and what are the average wages of London (or Leatherhead) and Glasgow (or Maybole)Prefer girls to money0 -

I can just about see the point if you're earning £100k + p.a., but other than that I find it hard to understand. I've been and worked there (temporarily) many times and can't wait to get away, being on say £25-30k a year down there must be thoroughly miserable existance.
It's not I can assure you.
People who aren't from London seem to think the only people that live here are rich city workers, my Grandparents lived in London before 'the financial district' even existed as it does now. Why should I move out of this city that I love and is my home?
As for the answer to the OP I'll just say the old 'a house is worth whatever someone is willing to pay' people in the south east are prepared to pay more and this has pushed prices up massively. JMO and I'm no ecoomist.
My local housing waiting list is 5 years.

Property in every capital city is more expensive than that in it's hinterlands. I wonder whether that's because corporate HQ's and governmental administrative centres tend to be a focus of liquidity within economies?0 -
