MSE website: Discuss the MegaShopbot

  • Like many others here, I'm disappointed with this - today I found what I was looking at cheaper myself. Previously I've only ever seen "Product not found".

Bought a DVD from Tesco at the weekend. MSB doesn't list Tesco as selling it, but offers the "cheapest" price of 30% more than I paid for it I've checked the tesco website which still lists it at the price I paid. I won't be relying on it.
  • The MegaShopBot really needs updating - getting rid of some of the sites, maybe adding replacements and changing the ones selected.

E.g. Foundem is listed, but if you search for anything it barely compares any shops, and if you go direct to their site they say they don't compare DVDs, books or CDs any more!

BookBrain only seems to check Amazon and Blackwell, so not much use!

Google says it can't display anything.

    Etc, etc.

It looks like it's very neglected, which is a shame as it could be quite a good idea.
  • Hi, would the megashopbot pick up the Black Friday deals to compare?

  • I think a lot of Money Savers are missing out because doesn't feature on any of the book comparison sites? Its books are often cheaper than Amazon and so should come up on the MegaShopbot.
  • The Shopbot isn't working.

I am unable to enter anything into the search field.

Please can you fix it - it's so useful!

    Thank you MSE.

I can't even find it, never mind try to use it!! Has this gone the way of the other useful tool cash back maximiser. The site is going backwards if it has:(

This is an absolute disaster! A great shopping comparison tool has been wiped out of existence, with only the briefest of notes at the start of this thread. Why??? Please provide a better explanation... or ANY explanation! Sadly, I really do feel that the site is moving away from support of people who would like to save money and towards being a site that wants to make money. :(
  • I concur. The apparent loss of the MegaShopbot tool and, without any seeming announcement that I can find from a few searches, the cashback checker tool is a real loss and I thought exactly the same thing: does this herald the site dropping some of the in-house tools that made it all worthwhile and gave people the information they needed to save money.

    Hi all

Following the closure of MegaShopBot, I wanted to respond to a couple of recent posts on this thread.

Unfortunately we've had to take the tough decision to close MegaShopBot. We're working to improve how the site functions and unfortunately due to the old technology that this tool was built on, it wasn't something our small technical team was able to continue to support.

Over recent years the number of people using this tool has dropped as the popularity of other shopping bots such as Google Shopping has risen. As a result, our technical team's efforts will be focused on improving and supporting other parts of the MSE site which are used more frequently.

I understand that if this was a tool you used frequently this may be a little disappointing - it was a difficult decision for the team here to make.
