SKY monitoring broadband usage

Now on SKY you can monitor how much you are using your broadband.
I am on the BASE package, which used to be free but now it's free up to 2gb.
I have just looked at my useage on my account (it started on the 1st) and i have already used 11% and its only day one!!!!!
Looks like I'm going to be forced by Sky to upgrade to the £5 a month package. What a rip off, they sell you the product as free unlimited but then decide to make you upgrade!
Has anyone else got any experience of this?

I pay a tenner to Sky and I dont have any problems0

Classic bait and switch tactic.
Of course in the days before iPlayer, 2GB a month would have been thought luxurious! No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
A lot of ISP's monitor usage, 2gb a month is fine for 1pc which is being used for surfing/gaming and the odd windoze update, if you are streaming video/audio downloading or have more than 1 pc in the house then you should look to increase the amount you would expect to use.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

Apparently I have used 46% in three days. I find that hard to believe as all I do is surf the net. Dont download anything.0

It's not download, it's data usage. Everytime you view a web page, you are uploading and downloading data. Same with streaming music or video, it all counts.
Every time your AV updates or Windows Updates run, same thing applies. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

46% percent in three days? It seems a little bit much. Its not like I am doing anything heavy duty. If I am that close after three days then most people must be done in a few hours. From January Sky will be looking for £15 quid off me at this rate. I went with them because they are cheap, and the service isnt bad, I dont think I can be bothered paying that much for the service though.0 -
Your usage allowance for this billing period is 10GB and you have used 30.91GB.
Whoops! Looks like I better upgrade!
ETA : I still have 9 days left of this allowance, eeek!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
But you're not paying them anything, the service is 'free' by Sky's definition. A 2GB service is very limiting these days, so they sell this on the basis that most people will then have to upgrade once they're contracted.
Are you using iPlayer perhaps? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
