    £160!

Thats the cost including an engineers visit. the cost for the extension is £50 (thats from memory so dont quote me), the rest you would be charged once per visit.

Just wondering how much does it cost for a new connection on a flat which supposedly had BT line before, i.e. I'm not the first tenant.

If there is a existing BT line when you move in, there is normally no connection charge for the person moving in to the property..

Having read the majority of this thread, I shamefully have to admit, I baulked at the idea of paying £125 for an install.

But then as a wise sage said (in the middle of this somewhere) its better than having no phone.

I guess we forget sometimes that as they have the monopoly on installs, they can actually charge what they like, and we probably (?) should be grateful they dont charge us the £400 it actually costs!!

I live in a static home in the middle of nowhere, and due to the rise in request for phones in my street, BT have had to install cabling for about 50 homes where there was previously none at all.

So, Im going to ask my boss if the company will pay for the installation .. got a promotion, so I wonder if they love me that much that they will pay for it?

If it helps your cash flow they will let you pay it by four instalments.;)

So you want to be available to your boss 24/7.
If it were me I would just pay it myself.

I don't see why they would as you have already had a promotion and you have chosen to live 'in the middle of nowhere'.

    Pay up!

  • I'd just like to remind some of you out there that not everyone is moving into a home needing a new BT line installed that they are buying, in which case a line is part of the total investment. I'm moving into a Housing Association flat (for that I am grateful) that is a new conversion and all the tenants are being left with the bill to connect (8 flats). I was not expecting this extra £125 on top and it is proving a financial nightmare (may I add the parking arrangements for the removal van alone is £140). If I was fortunate to be able to afford to buy this flat for £300,000 then I would not be worried about the line cost. But I can't and unless I win the lottery I will never be able to buy my own home anywhere. So- at this moment- £125 means a great deal to me on my means tested/minimum wage income. I would have been very pleased to discover there was an alternative- but so far, I haven't discovered one.
