But she has the option of taking her own food. The playcentres near me are £10 per head including food (so £400 for 40 kids!) or exclusive hire for £250 and bring own food. OP can get exclusive hire for £99 and take her own food!! Doesnt get much cheaper then that unless you want 40 kids ransacking your house lol.

    I think we agree then!

You seemed to be saying the venue and food are very cheap.

I was thinking £2.50 a head for a bit of party food isn't what I'd call cheap.

The venue is very reasonable but having them do the catering would really bump up the cost imo.

I always did a big party for all of my kids (4) when they were about 6 or 7. They have gots lots of little friends and they always have a good time. I agree that lots of nibbly bits, cake and loads of squash drinks would be money saving. I thinks it sounds very reasonable for a venue.

Ok, not having read "how to win friends and influence people" I'll go out on a bit of a limb.

It's all relative- given the OP's sig, they can't afford to spend that sort of money on a kids party- it's just adding to a debt spiral. If a seven year old gets that sort of money spent on a party in those circumstances, he won't take kindly to being told "no, we can't afford it" in the future- and so it spirals on.

Op, my apologies- I don't mean to come across as holier than thou- I'm just speaking frankly.

Small one screen cinema- Lings Forum in Northampton. they only show one film at a time so you could choose to watch that or take a DVD. We took Spirited Away and the kids loved it.

Sorry but I won't deny my child this opportunity for a party. He didn't have one last year and my debt has significantly decreased from what it says in my sig, just haven't updated it.
My son is well aware of the fact that this will be his last party and that the following years he will be able to take a friend to the cinema or similar place.
Also forgot to mention that as my 2 children have their birthdays fairly close together I will be saving money by having one big joint party rather than having two.
I was not asking for people's opinions on whether or not I could afford the party but was asking for an opinion on having a party with either no or little food.
