opinion please on birthday party

Hi
I am currently looking for a venue for my son's 7th birthday. I have found a venue that looks good but the snag is the cost.
It is £99 for the venue alone irrespective of how many children go, up to a max of 40 kids. If I want to add food this is at a cost of £2.50 per head or I could take my own food.
The other option would be not to have food. They have the option of having the party at 1:30 till 3:15. Do you think it would be acceptable to have the party at this time and not have food. Obviously there would still be drinks available to the kids.
I just want other people's opinions in this please.

I think that food is usually expected at a party. If you're not doing food then I would mention it on the invite as some of the children may not have had dinner if the parents think food will be laid on.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

A kids party without food? Noooooo!0

£99 just for the venue? Don't do it, at seven, it won't be appreciated- and you'll make a rod for your own back!Only dead fish go with the flow...0

Yes and £99 without food and kids just getting cheap cola is the worst party ever! Don't you remember being 7!?
It was all balloons, pass the parcel, potted meat sandwiches and jelly and icecream! Don't forget the yummy cake!0 -
It's not a party if there is no food.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

My little niece of 8 had a party last weekend, themed "Disco in Space".... Kids loved it!... They felt it was quite a grown up theme, instead of the usual Tellytubbies or Barbie parties... Just get the kids to dress up and venue or no venue, they'll have a fab time!! :-)0

What sort of venue is it? What will they be doing? If you can bring your own food it wouldn't cost a lot to do a few sandwiches, sausage rolls and buns.0

TBH the venue hire sounds reasonable to me if was soft play/activity based for something if it was just a hall then no its not reasonable if you need to provide entertainment as well. Food is a must no matter what and doing food yourself from Tesco/Asda will be cheap enough
All my kids partys s far have cost between £8-£12 per head but they only have big partys while they are in primary and untill they are 9 or so then it chaanges to a few friends to cinema/pizza etc
Good Luck in chosing
ClaireWife to a great husband and mum to 4 fantastic kids 9,8,4,3 they drive me mad but I would do anything and give everything for my family :grinheart

Our son turned 6 a few wks ago and we took him and a few of his friends out 2 the cinema and then for a special tea with his family after it and it was a lot cheaper than hiring out a venue for a big party! In prev yrs we have just had a b/day party in the house for him which is a lot cheaper thn paying big money for a venue.I find £99 just for the place and no food a bit steep esp coming up 2 Christmas!0
