My son's best party ever was hiring a cinema, for £100. It took 200 people so we took all his friends and invited their families along too. We went to the cash and carry and got everyone a bag of sweets and a fruit shoot.

    Wow, that's quite cheap!

Was that a large chain or a small indpendent?

We went to a party at one of these softplay places and the mum ordered in pizza--it was brilliant. Delivered to the door and the kids scoffed it. Not too much wastage and then a wee party bag for home

But she has the option of taking her own food. The playcentres near me are £10 per head including food (so £400 for 40 kids!) or exclusive hire for £250 and bring own food. OP can get exclusive hire for £99 and take her own food!! Doesnt get much cheaper then that unless you want 40 kids ransacking your house lol.

If you bought things like sausage rolls etc you could open the packs as the kids come begging for food rather than laying them out, and then freeze any that you don't need? Coming up to Christmas you will almost certainly find a chance to use them up!
  • Sounds like a good deal. I'd probably go with bringing paper plates, cupcakes, sausages, grapes, wotsits, ribena, etc, just so I knew the food was OK. Party bags can contain the real junk for when they leave.

You have to provide something to eat - guilt free cold chicken nuggets and sugary drinks, along with those hooting rollup thingies with feathers on the end (driving you mad on the way home) are the whole point of kids' parties!

Small one screen cinema- Lings Forum in Northampton. they only show one film at a time so you could choose to watch that or take a DVD. We took Spirited Away and the kids loved it.

£99 just for the venue? Don't do it, at seven, it won't be appreciated- and you'll make a rod for your own back!

I always did a big party for all of my kids (4) when they were about 6 or 7. They have gots lots of little friends and they always have a good time. I agree that lots of nibbly bits, cake and loads of squash drinks would be money saving. I thinks it sounds very reasonable for a venue.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

My son's last party didn't have food. It was a football party so was an hour of football training and a ground tour of his favourite team. Food wasn't missed at all. I took drinks for them all.

Personally I can't stand the food that most party venues put on and wouldn't be the slightest bit bothered if my son wentto a party without it. As you say most of the time they would rather play than eat.

Hope your lo has fab time
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.
