Big Windows Update Ready

MS have got 12 updates in this batch of 'patch Tuesday' updates. Some of these are critical.

For anyone running W98 or ME though. MS are not patching one critical security flaw. They say it would require too much work to do the changes, so are leaving these unpatched for these operating systems.

You can still protect your system from this flaw if you run W98 or ME though. You need to set your firewall to block access to the TCP 139 port. This will protect you from the unpatched problem.

    Yes I read this on BBC news site early today, I checked ms update but as yet it doesnt appear for me at least :(

    Yes, I've checked the W98, and W2000 machines (XP Pro later), and nothing shows yet for me.

    It is patch Tuesday for sure, but they may work on one of the US timezones which would mean it's a bit later for us in the UK.

    It's worthwhile to keep checking until they show. There are a few critical patches in this batch.

    Yes, try later on tonight or tomorrow morning. They release it in the USA so we don't get it for a while.
