  • i was just sent this. It could be a load of rubbish, but seems apt today:

If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labour.
If you cross the Iranian border illegally, you are detained indefinitely.
If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally, you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese border illegally, you may never be heard from again.
If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally, you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Cuban border illegally, you will be thrown into political prison to rot.

However, if you cross the BRITISH border illegally, you get a job, a driver's licence, a social security card, welfare benefits, food stamps, credit cards, subsidized rent or a loan to buy a new house, free education, free health care, a lobbyist in LONDON, a legal right to criticise and berate not only our Christianity but all of our Western ideals and principals and, in many instances, you can VOTE.
Yes, I know it is so ......... but would someone please tell me why !!!!!!!

To be honest, if given the choice of living under any of those regimes and have a solid border, or living under ours and have a porous one, I know which one I'd choose!

No idea whether its rubbish or not, but some pretty horrid things by our standards can happen if you live/stay in some of those countries and share not the ideologies...so a bit ridiculous really.

I also understand the drive for economic migration. I'm not sure I want to pay for it, but I have sympathy for it, and can't be ure I wouldn't (won't!) be part of the same in the future.
  • Perhaps Horsey would prefer life in North Korea, Saudi, Venezuela, Iran or any other of the horse-frightening list of weirdo-paranoid states he has supplied as exemplars of best-practice border-control.

All immigrants should be sent to the Isle of St Kilda where they can either make it or not - social Darwinism innit? That'll ensure that only the 'best' immigrants can gain entry into the UK. Survivors can then fight each other with granite blocks on live TV for berths on the one sailing to the mainland every 5 to 10 years.

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

  • i am happy for anyone to come to the UK provided they work, support themselves and contribute to society.

    anyone else can go.

as for asylum seekers... being an island i am not sure how this is the first safe haven the somalis arrived at.

I saw a show on bbc a couple of weeks ago where some asylum seekers were desperate to get from france to here. from FRANCE!!! that is a safe country is it not???? but they want all the freebies.

Get rid of all the freebies and the majority of the problem will disappear with them.

no asylum seekers or immigrants should be allowed NHS treatment (except A&E) until they have paid in for at least 7 years. Same for schools.

I dare say that most of the severe penalties for crossing their borders are if you cross them trying to get out, not in.

  • anyway, what is wrong with having a proper and fair system of immigration, and shooting those who try to avoid using it. that is their choice. they could always apply in the proper and correct manner.

Our borders are porous because we're in the EU, so we should have an EU wide policy on asylum seekers (ie. quotas for all EU countries, where each country takes an equal share) and an EU wide harmonisation on benefits.

An equal share, or proportional one? If proportional based on what....size, wealth, vacancies? (or inversely lack thereof?)
