if you do have a modern RS boiler in the bedroom, you dont need an air vent.
i would always keep the vent and just block it off temp for the winter.
then reinstate it for the spring/summer.
What do you think to the duck / gaffer tape idea?
  • I unscrewed mine stuffed a pillow in it and screwd it back on.
I did check with the plumber who fitted our boiler and he said we had more than enough vents for our needs as there are vents everywhere.

gaffer tape will do the job ok and its cheap.
cleaning it off isnt the best job in the world though!
but a new vent cover is only 1 or 2 quid.
    Get some gorm.

What's to say the new vent cover won't be as drafty as the old one?! Do you use the terms gaffer and duck tape interchangeably? I thought gaffer tape left no cr ap whereas Duck tape did.

what i meant was that if there is a problem cleaning off the tape gunge in the spring, then a new vent cover will be peanuts. no big deal.

'I'm getting a lot of mould in my bedroom and we don't know why'

When it does buy some mould killer spray and get an anti mould paint additive to redecorate with.
Or alternatively ring your landlord after you've taken the tape off or removed the pillow and complain to him about the mould and if he doesn't sort it you'll goto environmental health dept etc etc
The good thing is it's attitudes like this that keep people like me in business,

What about taping some sheets of cotton wool on the inside, will let the air flow but maybe not as drafty? just an idea

i shouldnt worry too much about trade posters with an axe to grind. this place is full of em.
most houses have that many drafts, there is enough fresh air getting in.

if only your forum medals related to the quality of your advice, and for the record 'fellow forumer' I don't sell myself (oo-er!) or my company, I have regularly given details of my trade suppliers in the past, to try and help the odd person out, my advice to you is to get some gorm :D

I'm actually fully aware of mould and the role air flow has to play.
complain to him about the mould and if he doesn't sort it you'll goto environmental health dept etc etc
    Thanks for this rude post.
