Does anyone have any other recommendations? Looking to keep costs down but don't mind spending a bit if it's worthwhile. We are 2 adults, very "in" to industrial heritage (great little trains here we come! :j) and also other historical stuff and scenery. Will definitely visit the Snowdon Mountain Railway, Llanberris and Portmerion (I am a Prisoner fan, so it has to be done!). Any other "must do"s?

If you're anywhere near Llandudno you might want to visit the Great Orme Copper Mines. During the bronze age Llandudno was one of the main copper mining centres in Europe and sections of the mines have been excavated and opened up to visitors. The mines are located close to the top of the Great Orme so on a clear day you'll get some spectacular views from up there.

You can get to the top of the Orme on the tramway, which is the only cable hauled tramway in the country and was opened in 1902.

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous you can also get up the Orme using the longest cable car ride in the country.

The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

Caernarfon & Criccieth castles, Snowdon train & the Electric Mountain in Llanberis, Beddgelert & Betws Y Coed for lovely cafes & quaint little shops, Beaches - Dinas Dinlle (follow the A497 from Caernarfon to Pwllheli), Black Rocks near Porthmadog, Whistling Sands near Pwllheli, Red Wharf Bay & Newborough in Anglesey. Llandudno is worth a visit too.,

Plenty of lovely cafes, pubs dotted around. Dinas Dinlle beach boasts a new cafe/restaurant called Bwyty Lleu - serves beautiful food & I love going there on a windy Sunday for a nice cup of tea!

campsites uk is a good start for a decent site for a good central location i would recommend Bryn Gloch as a base middle of everywhere. outside Caernarfon on Beddgelert road. Enjoy Wales
