  • Llanberis, for its Slate Museum and Snowdon, if you don't fancy walking up there's a train.
Numerous castles and the odd NT property

North coast, incl Llandudno pretty and good for shopping

Portmeirion, lovely scenic village (I expect you've been there if you've been to Porthmadog though)

Loads of walks in Snowdonia too, one of my favourites is walking up to Cwm Idwal, easyish and fine for kids.

Beddgelert, pretty village nice pubs, nice walks around the river

I'll pop back if I think of more but living here it's hard to think of stuff sometimes (if that makes sense!)
  • Mrs Fraggle, Thank you just the thing we are looking for we went there on Honeymoon last year so going back as we had such a lovely time in North Wales.
I adore:j castles and try to visit any all over Wales.
Have made a list and all places we never been too.will try to do research about places you mentioned, we going to be there for Saint Davids day and cant wait as I think in north wales you make more of an effort than down south:D
We love walking and think we are going to be busy

I know what you mean when folk as me about where I live as you live there you forget or take for granted the places you have.

  • Conwy castle is by far the best! I also recommend Bodnant Gardens, a walk up to Aber Falls (Abergwyngregyn), a mooch around Betws y Coed, the slate museum at Llanberis, Portmeirion, shopping in Llandudno and Beddgelert.
  • OOh thanks Litte Vic
Trying to rack brain but dont think we did Conwy castle so we just have to visit
    Aber falls sound fab
late museum oh yes on our walks last year they was so much slate just in mud that hubby was used to me getting muddy and taking a wee piece back to take home it inspired me to have slate tiles in dining room and slate place mats etc I LOVE slate.
    Our list is getting longer

Aber is gorgeous - it's just off the A55 between Llanfairfechan and Bangor. Penrhyn Castle is lovely, as is Newborough beach on Anglesey. Have fun!

If you want to visit Port Meirion, book a lunch at Castell Deudraeth ( set 3 courses @ about £13 ) to get free entry. The setting and the food are lovely, well worth it without the free entry.

  • OOh Thank you Pollypenny wow that sounds fab and will book a meal there I have a feeling we shall be back up to North wales every year and so glad I started this thread because without you lovely people would not be visiting all these lovely places.

Little Vics Thanks for directions and more places to visit

    Lorian-Thanks for recommendations

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Note Aber Falls isnt very accessable if you have pram wheelchair or walking difficulties
Some of the most beautiful beaches are scattered around north wales too aswell as mountainns Someone mentioned Newborough Red Wharf on the other side of Anglesea is fab too have a walk to the RSPB on south stack too . Try Nefyn and Dinas Dinlle or Barmouth. Think not just where you are going but also how to get there because some of the steam trains around north wales go through places not able in a car and they are Breathtaking . I was watching the Salmon Leap just past Beddgellert last month little walk but worth the journey. Alot of free things to see and do and plenty of history
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
