Today saw a trip to Mr T (went up for petrol, so rude not to nip into the store)

2x small packs value ham (we don't like the one from Mr M as much, and buying smaller packs means it keeps better)
2x packs breadsticks (DD gave me a tray of dips, but I've nothing to dip into them :rolleyes2)
1x value maltloaf (DS enjoys this, and hasn't had any for a few months)

    Total cost £2.12

Then Mr M for a 750g punnet of mushrooms (for tomorrow, with steak I got Whoopsied on Christmas Eve)

£1.46 less staff discount (so £1.31)

So that left me a little bit of my Grocery Budget...... until I check the Whoopsies as I left work tonight

2x long french sticks @ 9p each (normally 60p each)
    1x large Tiger bloomer @ 25p (£1)
    1x twin pack almond croissants @ 25p (80p)
2x twin pack Chicken & Mushroom pies (from the deli) @ 35p (£1.50 each)

Total of £1.38 less staff discount, so £1.24 to me

and 79p over budget for the month and year :o

    Declaring the month at £129.54

My annual figures stack up as follows against a budget of £1327.00

    Spent = £1327.79
Of that, £429.65 was spent on Whoopsie items
The real ticket price of the Whoopsies was £1573.09

So a spend of £1327.79 netted me goods worth £2471.23 :T

My average spend on Whoopsies was 27.31% of the real ticket price
And all-in-all my groceries cost me 53.73% of what they would have cost, had everything been full price

These figures don't allow for the fact that many of my Whoopsies could have been down-shifted, but it's the quickest calculation I can do.

Declaring £517.59 for December, well inside my £600 target. :j

I am really pleased, as the freezer is full and the fridge has very few left-overs (all eaten!). The cupboards are also well-stocked, so we should be able to avoid doing much shopping other than than the basics of milk, fruit & veg.

Right, off to make some tomato sauce stuff for tonight's nachos! This is a request from DS2. I got the Doritos on offer ages ago, so a nice and cheap midnight snack before scuttling off to bed!

Have a great Hogmonnay and a frugal start to 2010!

  • Hmm. Spending went a bit out of control this month! I thought I had enough put away for the extra Christmas spending, but apparently I didn't! January is going to be a very lean month.

Still, only £50 over in Christmas month isn't too bad, I feel, especially as I was ill for a lot of it. :-)

Declaring at £350.13 for December, please!

Well budgeted for £280 saying the Xmas food & wine would come out of a separate budget but forgot to keep the amounts separate.

Total spend for December is £377.96

but that includes a £45 turkey as our contribution to a family Xmas dinner, a family meal at our house, bottles of wine, a couple of bottles of champagne & the very good I thought £10 M&S party meal for New Years Eve.
Have also managed to stock up on special offer meat and washing powder so hopefully Januarys bill will be low.

An annoying £19.43 over... all in the last 4 days of the year! I was 28p under with 4 day to go...

Toothache before and after dental trip for a couple of days = comfort food and takeaways!

  • I'm horrified. I set a budget of £250 for December and, based on the previous month, we should have been able to achieve this easily. However, hubby went mad on spending for Christmas and we spent £292.86  January will have to be VERY tight now. Fortunately, we have a freezer full of food :D

    So, I'm declaring £292.86 for December :o

    Happy New Year to everyone!!!

    I am declaring for December:

    £2.91 OVER budget

I was looking at my Xcel spreadsheet with my GC totals and I noticed that in the last 4 months (I started doing GCs in September 2009) I went even one month, under-budget another, and over-budget for the last two. Taken together, this means I went overbudget by £34.26 during the 4-month period, which averages out at £8.50 per month. Not an enormous amount, but a definite "Can do better" for 2010.

    :p

Went over budget - declaring at £464.14 against budget of £450 - I'm quite impressed at that, tbh - 18 months ago we were spending £700 on a 'normal' month - with one less of us.

We're keeping a note of EVERYTHING we spend for the 1st 3 months of the year - I want OH to see where the money goes... (that's the plan, anyway!)
