Give to charity shopI tend to put things away in a cupboard or into a big box in the attic until I either find a use for them, find a person who would appreciate them...or take them to a car boot sale, where they will definitely find someone who can make use of them.
I don't give them to people as presents though. I don't have a problem with others doing that, I would just feel a bit guilty if I done it tbh.:o
Hmm, fair enough I guess... I'm just a bit surprised that you would feel guilty re-gifting them but would be happy to sell them at a car boot?
I see re-gifting as embodying the spirit of MSE... not wasting money, not lining the pockets of companies by buying endless unnecessary tat only to let it sit in the attic (thereby creating even more waste) etc. I am sure that there is a huge re-gifting merry go round going on, and I am totally happy about that. Even if the re-gifted things are just stuff that nobody else wants, at least it collectively costs us all less. And one man's trash is another man's treasure - eventually, each re-gift will find its perfect owner!! Last year I got a book ( I never read books) .She was asked if I read books and she replied "oh it doesnt matter if he dose or not ,hes not important "
year before a cup a saucer ,I have a cupboard full of cups
and the best ,wait for it

cant wait for this years installment of tat.
I would love to recycle some of these and give them back to my sister next year ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
Sell on eBayI try to regift / ebay
A friend of mine gave me a necklace & earring set from accessorize last year it was really not my style so guess what my mom got for mothers day?? And she loves them and wears them all the time!
On the other hand I got given a radley purse & keyring set from my aunt a few years back and I really dislike radley, and knowing it wasnt cheap I sold it on ebay and bought something I really wanted!!0 -
Put away and give to someone else at a later dateIs there any way you can narrow it down i.e. is there anyone who definitely didn't give them to you? It's annoying when that happens isn't it!
Or if they're pretty and not too delicate, you can still use them for Shloer, sparkling water etc - just to add a bit of glamour!!
I have a gift cupboard too and fill it up with grabbits/bargains throughout the year... and I reckon we're not the only ones! :rotfl:
I also love boot slippers - and wine glasses come to that if you're really stuck for someone to give them to! Since I definitely didn't give them to you. :rotfl:
Nope no bliking idea, remember getting them and thinking mmmm useful NOT!!! but really can't recall who or when. was gonna give them to a cusin whose just moved into her own place, but cos I can't recall who gave them to me there's a niggling doubt it might've been her!!! Might have to give them to you, cos I'm stumped now:rotfl: Tho may wait for one of the kids school fetes???
We was given some glasses a few yrs back really posh expensive ones that we use on xmas day etc for the kids Shloer etc( we really do think alike:D) they was given to us by a parent of the footie team OH was managing, so they didn't really know him very well. So we did try and use them.
The slippers are realy nice one, came from M & S ( per una) but i just don't do slippers.
What I find annoying is [STRIKE]stupid[/STRIKE] unthoughtful gifts from people who know me.... my sis has known since childhood I have an allergy to soap etc on my face, yet still buys me stuff to use on my face. Everyone knows I don't wear slippers cos it's commented on enough ... ooohh aren't your feet cold and in the summer when i'm in the garden about how dirty they are etc. Yet still i get slippers!!!!0 -

My sister suffers similar from her sis in law.
One yr she was given bubble bath, nothing wrong with bubble bath, but it was the tesco value one.
another yr she was given an diary and her OH got the matching address book. Obviously seperated set from the pound store too!!!!!
And yes I know before everyone says be grateful the giver might be skint etc, her sis in law is no way skint, she's a miser. So much so that now she refuses to buy for my sis, OH and their 3 kids cos she doesn't get a gift back from each of them!!!!! she gives to receive which in my book is ALL wrong.0 -

Put away and give to someone else at a later datevery seldom i get something i dont like , but something i cant use i would rather recycle as a present or donate it for a raffle for charity i feel better if it gets put to good use than lying around the house0

We have a box in the loft and any unwanted gifts and bit I pick up in the sales go in so that we have plenty of items for the school summer and xmas fairs as they let the children dress down for a few fridays in exchange for donations.0

Other (please tell us)Hmm, fair enough I guess... I'm just a bit surprised that you would feel guilty re-gifting them but would be happy to sell them at a car boot?
I don't feel guilty 'reassigning' something I will never use.
I would feel guilty giving it to someone as a present because I wouldn't have put much thought into the giving. And also little guilty because I wouldn't have spent any money on that person.
A little against the spirit of MSE I guess, but I'm just programmed that way lolCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
