You won't need it Jail Broken. Just unlocked. Then pop your SIM card in - You might need the MMS / Data Settings, but that's not a problem to type in and you're done! I've done it with an Offically unlocked "O2 iPhone 3GS" and have a T-Mobile Solo SIM in it.. perfect!
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)
  • Thanks, can I ask was your phone unlocked from new? or was it an old phone? as I will be looking to get a new one.
  • Not from new. I had it on contract from O2 then a few weeks ago O2 announced they will unlock iPhones. So filled in the form and now I have a iPhone 3GS with ax excellent T-Mobile Solo deal...

Thanks I wonder if an "unofficial" unlock will be quite so succesful.

I don't think you can officially unlock an Iphone from new, although if you buy a PAYG handset from the Apple Store, it may be unlocked?
  • Do you just contact O2 and request them to unlock it? I have a contract with my iPhone.

    Is it free of charge?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have an HTC phone, (Windows Mobile), my colleague has an i-phone. We're always comapring things. The choice is simple...

If you want all the flashy apps, games and gizmo's get the iphone
If you want faster browsing speed then get the HTC.

    Simple!

Apparently it is for those under a contract, but only after 12 months for those on PAYG More info can be found here:

I think I am probably going to be in the flashy apps, games and gizmo box, particularly as I need a new MP3/Ipod so hopefully will kill 2 birds with one stones in that front. The only thing stopping me is the worry over either unlocking it myself or someone else and it messing up and not being covered.

You can now unlock an O2 contract phone immediately, free of charge.

PAYG rules stipulate 12mths of ownership and a cost of £15. Though people have posted of success stories putting their contract phone number into the O2 online forum and getting the PAYG unlocked after less than 12mths.

Apple Store phones are not unlocked.
