I do recall, LIR, that you and your good man are into a bit of music. I played loads in the 60`s, 70`s and 80`s, kind of slowing down since then but still do the odd gig. Think I am playing on Saturday.
I was part of the London pub scene in the 80`s, that was good fun and played most of the popular venues. A few references on the internet regarding some of the things I was involved in.
Dunno if you guys have seen the advert on Sky with the older guy with glasses who is a trumpet player.

Believe it or not but he was leaving my secondary school as I was joining it. His Grand Pa, who was very old then, taught me to play the trombone. I then went on to piano , keyboards and organ. Totally mad on jazz organ. This is what I like to play.

I'm retiringI've been doing some ( precious little) recording for a friend or two over the last couple of years since being here (nothing fancy, which is just fine by me) but, and its taken me a few weeks to feel ''ok'' with this, but my singing days are numbered. Not sure what I'll do instead. Rattle a tambourine or something. Dh has been sitting in a bit in Town, I think with a sopranino or soprano on some gigs but not ATM, he's working crazy hours. We're thinking to get some studio time, some friends in and some liquid and get what we don't have recorded down in spring...just for fun though.
Its so much nicer just for fun.

Me, I sometimes burst into song. Often caught whistling bebop improvisations, seriously.
Respect. Most blokes of a certain age around here whistle Misty, or Stranger on the Shore. But some Charlie Parker or Miles Davis, or my favourite Art Blakey, now that would be smart. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Maybe the H&S people have a point...
Can I still be considered a 'nice person' if I own up to laughing out loud at this?
If the answer is "no" then I did'nt laugh out loud really.0 -

No worries. Charlie Parker, now ya talking. What a guy! I remember Uncle Bill and his misses staying with us one Christmas, think I was 13. Gave me a token to buy an LP. Home I came with a Thelonious Monk album, " Blue Monk ". Dad, who was not the greatest fan of jazz was horrified that my Uncle Bill might hear what I had spent my money on, lol.
I can recall playing it over and over until I memorised the solos of Johnny Griffin the tenor sax player. Parker died years ago but at 16 I saw Dizzy play at the Hammersmith Palace supported by Jimmy Smith and his trio. Hung outside the stage door and got to meet Jimmy and what a nice bloke he was to a young kid.
Hey how about a bit of pre Christmas fun??????????????????????????????
Fed up with hearing how many people earn 100k a year plus or threatening to smash each others heads in if house prices go up/ down.
Let`s do a Desert Island disc session.
So what 8 gramophone records would you take on a desert island, one book apart from the Bible and one luxury?0 -
Sorry Pobby, I'd take an IPod with a solar charger in case the pineapples fell out of the trees and scratched my records, or they melted in the sun. I have a jazz head on this month, so my jazz collection would include:
Nights In Tunisia - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (a permanent fixture on any list)
Girl from Ipanema - probably the Astrud Gilberto version
Love Supreme - John Coltrane
Down St Thomas Way - Mark Murphy version
Expansions - Lonnie Liston Smith
The Bottle - Gil Scott Heron
Mas Que Nada - Sergio Mendes
Walk In the Night - Jnr Walker
Some more hardcore than others, all good to dance to. And tomorrow my list will probably be totally different, depends on mood.
My luxury would be a pop-up beach cabana - practical shade in the daytime.
Book - can I bend the rules a bit and take the Encyclopaedia Britannica, or does it have to be one volume?
Jimmy Smith wouldn't make my list, but I do have a couple of albums of his in my vinyl collection.
Edited to add:
Aaarrrrrggghhhh.... This is hard. I've just realised I've missed off Eddie Jefferson. And Dianne Reeves. I think I may need to go sleep on it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Very good choice if I might say. Still working on mine.0

Vivatosi .....If this was really Desert Island Discs you would say why you chose each one.
Pray tell.0 -
Well, they are all excellent tunes to fix a broken ear to...
Most of them are songs I have always liked. Lonnie Liston Smith I used to dance my socks off to. There's a couple of them remind me of a conversation I once had with a fairly well known DJ in my younger days. He told me I had quite a good record collection "for a girl"...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Thought it was time for an update.
No snow here.
Anyone anywhere else?
I'm currently running a lowish temperature, just at the wrong time, as I have stacks of marking hitting my inbox tomorrow (well, probably midnight tonight, but I won't be checking).
DD1 has the same bug but far worse than me, so I seem to spend all day running up and downstairs, fetching things like straws, juice, food she won't actually eat...
How's everyone else?0
