Hi Gen....do you remember what damp and cold feels like?;)

I don't think it's stopped raining for weeks here.
Our rental is dampest house ever and the curtains billow inwards as the windows are so draughty....like the window is open.

The heating is a waste of time and the heat from the coal fire just goes up the chimney.

I shuffle around in a giant Arran knit and cream fluffy slippers looking like the sheep in Wallace and Gromit

I can't wait to move back home to London to an undamp house.

I watched the Spurs v Ar**nal game which was on at English lunchtime a few weeks back and I was absolutely shocked at how low the sun was in the sky. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to go back to the English winter, going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark too.

There are a lot of things I miss about England. That isn't one of them.

Maybe you're like me and don't do birthdays very well, PN? I like them to just drift by now.

When I was 40, my DW laid on a big party, and dug up a few people from my past as surprise guests. It was a lovely idea, but 40 is a dangerous age and one of the guests was an ex-girlfriend who was having a bit of marital trouble at the time.....Yes, you can see where this is going... Well said ex-GF and I both got a bit tipsy, ignored everyone else, said a few things we shouldn't have said and ended the evening by crying our eyes out - not exactly what was envisaged! It took me a good 6 months to get over that one.:o

When it came to 50, again DW excelled herself, fooling me completely into turning up at a sort of 'This is Your Life Party,' where all sorts of people from my past showed-up. It was held at work, where myself and two other colleagues were being honoured for 25 years service, so at least I wasn't the full focus of attention and I enjoyed it. However, it felt a bit like I was retiring, and the other two said the same. A few years later, when I switched to part-time, the boss said: 'Well, we've done your 'do,' so don't expect another one,' which sort of confirmed that.

When I turned 60 this year, it was the day after we moved out of our old home, where we'd been for 21 years. Now that really was a turning point, which didn't need any fancy 'do.' A quiet meal in a pub was all that happened. I liked it.

PN, you're at a bit of a turning point too, so you've probably no desire for any extra fuss either ATM. All the same, I hope you had a good day yesterday, and many more birthdays in the future.
    :happylove:bdaycake:and, one day.......:www:

How bad does that make us all feel!

Tell us next time, and you'll find your inbox flooded with birthday PMs. :)

    Hope they were good chips.

Nothing better than the feeling of hot, salty, vinegary chips inside your mouth, in contrast to the cold wind lashing your cheeks... Mmm. Happy memories of a holiday in Suffolk, best chips ever on a cold grey day on Aldeburgh beach. :)

Hope yesterday's chips were a good moment for you too...

Vinegar is the most vile thing ever invented! Along with brown sauce.

Agree to disagree. But I'm with you on brown sauce. :)
