I never said we did. But, that doesn't mean that we can't challenge existing policies or ask questions.

It is a very sad day when we all stop asking questions.

  • They can be asked however some on here wont like the answers unless it goes their way. Some bang on about 'fairness'. Life is not fair. Man Utd normally win the Prem, should the FA do something about that? Life is gonna suck when you grow up and then you're gonna die

Again, just because things are unfair in other areas, doesn't mean you should just accept it.

If you are unhappy with something then you are perfectly entitled to voice your opinion and ask for it to be changed.

I don't believe we should ever stop trying to work towards equality in all areas of life.

If people never did, then we'd still have slave labour!

I also understand that applying 'fairness' to certain situations can prove very difficult. But we can still work towards finding the best solution for everyone.

I sincerely hope not. The majority of bank account holders who manage their money carefully, budget within their means, and therefore manage to avoid going into unauthorised arrears would quite like to continue with free banking thank you very much.
How naive can you be? Read Andrew Ellson in 'The Times' - puts it very succinctly - if you can morally accept a few people suffering disproportionate charging in order that the majority can avoid a few pounds a month for their banking then you should examine your conscience. This is flagrant profiteering by the banks. No-one minds paying reasonable fees for services. I hope you never experience the kind of misfortune that lands most people in the horrible kind of trouble that results from the cynical bank charge spiral.

No, but they also don't pay out billions in bonuses each year as a reward for incompetent work.

No, even worse, the NHS pay billions of pounds of guaranteed salary for incompetent work.

I wish everyone the best with their personal financial situations. I also hold no grudge with those who have genuinely been treated unfairly by banks, I'm sure there are a few genuine cases for reclaim of charges. What I object to very strongly are the people who are trying to claim back charges which they incurred fair and square due to poor management of their money, lack of budgeting etc. and now see the opportunity for a quick buck by jumping on this bandwagon.

I think you'll find they're in the minority....

As do the banks, as well as the bonuses, the christmas parties, the work lunches, the client entertainment budget. The list goes on.

Do you have any evidence of this? I know a few people who tried reclaiming and they all fall into the category of jokers who didn't bother to manage their accounts properly.

It's a shame because some people have genuine cause to complain due to these charges being incurred due to unforseen circumstances, but the mass of chancers trying to scam a few quid has diluted their cause and made the whole situation look like a rush by greedy people who want to renege on the contracts they signed with the banks.

I hope the outcome of all this is that bank charges are a bit more reasonable, ie capped at maybe £15 each and a max of £50 or so a month - after all the banks could easily not allow people to withdraw money they don't have, they just chose not to. However I hope nobody gets any further money back for charges already incurred.

I think the main difference is the NHS overpays people accross the board, not just the executives; I know of people earning £40k+ for basic admin jobs in the NHS. I've worked for a bank (not in the core banking area) and we had to contribute to the christmas party, and the pay was below market rate - even performing above and beyond your grade you would be lucky to get a realistic pay rise.
