By the way, what's been said about the battery isn't actually true. If you are using a lappy plugged in, it's perfectly safe to take out the battery as....wait for it.....it stops it overcharging and losing the ability to hold a decent charge, which is what I am guessing has happened here. I used to do it all the time, never affected anything with my lappy.

Unlikely as all Current Mac laptops now have a built in battery which can't be removed.

Damn, my plan is flawed. But then again, I think I'll be OK with a 7 hour life

My own laptop is a good 2 years old, always had the same battery, holds charge fine for 3 hours. That's using Vista, Sage and various other SFE stuff.

The key is not to leave it on charge full time. Even if you're at home, charge, unplug, use til it's near empty, stick back on charge.
  • I'll probably go to hell for saying this but I can contain myself no longer.
This person appears to be saying that their disabilities prevent them from using a computer effectively. Other people are questioning their knowledge of computery stuff. Why are they doing a computer course? And what will they do once they've finished it?

OT, I'm glad I read that. I didn't know charging and re-charging your laptop shortens the battery life :(

It has been suggested numerous times, and even provided links to suitable adaptive software! ;)

Ad nauseum in fact. The OP does not actually want to solve a problem, if indeed there actually is a problem.
  • Another group of people rightfully losing patience with titch expecting everything for no effort on their part.

My laptop battery's down to 10-20 minutes, it's 3 years old but i didn't really use the battery for the first 18 months (left it half charged packed away somewhere except on trips to my parents) so i guess they just degrade anyway sometimes :(

What do you think about the laptop trolley, or wheely bag idea?

I have one of these and would really recommend it to the OP. :T I'm normally office based in my job, but can be required to travel. I developed back problems so requested a little wheely suitcase - it's made life so much easier! I found carrying a heavy laptop in a shoulder bag painful and difficult - whereas wheeling a laptop involves hardly any effort at all. It's definitely improved my quality of life! I realise the OP may have given up on this thread, but thought it was worth a go mentioning the idea again as from personal experience, it's a really good one.
