I think I must have mug written across my forehead I really do!

Friend in the loosest term (always asks for favours and never hear from her unless she generally wants something) calls me, we are going away this weekend and I want to bid on something on ebay. Will you bid on it, if I win then contact seller and get number so I can go and collect. Basically me doing all the hardwork so she can get a flipping bargain. Then she says Im going to split the box (massive box of lego) with other friend...so why can't the other friend do the bidding. Time for me to start looking after number 1 me thinks, fed up of people taking taking taking when they do nothing good for me or anyone else

  • only have 30 seconds before have to go back to work - so will have to whoosh and leave

Sammy - can you help? If my gross pay was 1647.34 how much would I take home on a 647L code? I've had 128.85 NI deducted, no pension etc. (or anyone else who knows these things!!)

My pay slip is a mess following the tax stuff - and I've now got a letter admitting a software error caused it and they hope to sort it before April or will have to arrange for it to be collected in a future year

Sally, I agree, say no. Cheek of it!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Now this is one for you all to think about for me.
DD2 works in a children's centre. Their full time receptionist/admin bod is off sick and likely to be for at least up to Christmas. They want to know if I would be interested in doing 2 days (20 hours) there temp.

I would love to but what are the pros and cons? Would lose £250 a month mortgage protection and £47 a week JSA. Plus I would have to go round the whole signing on lark in January and I am nearly due for mortgage help from JSA.

I have sent her back for money details. It might get refused by the council too.

I would so love to do it that I would do it free but obviously can't.

    What do you all think?
(she is off with depression so it might go on for longer).

Bookie can you possibly do 16 hours? You can still then claim JSA

I think you have to look at it really clinically Bookie, no matter how much it is tugging at heart strings. These are just some initial thoughts - I'm sure there will be more.

    Pros

You would be working - that may well help with self esteem and feeling of being back in control
    You would have some income
You really want to do it
It might become something longer term
Quite often it's easier to get a job if you are currently in one, proving that you are employable (and believing it yourself)

    Cons

Loss of mortgage protection (check if you can claim again once the job ends, how long you would have to wait etc)
Loss of JSA (again, how long would you have to wait to claim this again?)
Loss of JSA mortgage help (would the income from the job be at least equal to these three? How long would you have to wait to claim this again?)
Less time to apply for other jobs
Possibly less incentive to apply for other jobs? (What would happen if you were offered something full time before this job ends - could you bear to let them down?)

That doesn't really help but the answers to the above might make it clearer?

Bookie - I agree totally with what Sally and Snags have said! And if it was 2 days a week, I don't believe the hours would be more than 7.5 per day, so under the 16hpw limit to still claim JSA. And I certainly agree with Snags re 'easier to get a job when you're in a job'.

Obviously only you can decide, but whatever route you take I am sure will be for the best!

Thanks for all the comments about my daughter. She seems to be ok and doesn't even have any bruises to show for it - which she finds annoying!

To have fallen that far and then have nothing to prove it doesn't seem fair!! Mind you she is very stiff and aching, so we are going to cuddle up on the settee and watch a Christmas film now! (She is 22 by the way, but is still my little 'un!)
