OS Daily Thread - Friday 27th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 27th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums.
taplady - Well done on being runner up, that is a great achievement!!

Haribo - I hope your daughter is feeling much better now hon.
N9eav- my OH loves bigfish stuff, we used to buy some every time we went to Cornwall. Great prices you got though!
redruby - I am making Christmas cards too at the moment.
jc - A bad hip gives you automatic dispensation from cooking, so you can buy takeaways if you need to.
Sunnyday - It's so good to have you back and you were missed by many!
lowesy - you are definitely not useless! So glad you felt better yesterday and I hope it continues.
Curlytop - Mine is the 14th Dec!
Bitsy -
Feel better soon honey, stay warm and rest and keep the fluids up!
Mummysaver - How was the movie? The trailer looks very amusing.
Piglet - Go to the craft fair! The cooking will still be there when you get home...
Aussie - your last post made me laugh!
WM and BM are on and it feels very warm this morning. I feel a bit dead to the world but I am sure I will perk up. A nice cup of redbush tea should do the trick. With possibly a few cubes of fudge, purely to ensure they haven't gone off at all!
Lunch today will be ham, peppers, tomatoes and mustard mayo in some wraps I found at the back of the cupboard that needed to be eaten up. Dinner will be giant HM fish cakes made with mash and smoked fish and chopped peppers. Probably served with either tinned sweetcorn or baked beans.
I also intend to sit and sew some elastic into my makeup case to slide eyeliner pencils and lip glosses etc into. I had a row of them in my old one but my new bigger posh one does not and I miss them. So it's me and the elastic and the sewing basket today.
To anyone feeling under the weather - get well soon. I hope today is the very best it can be for everyone. With love and light to all.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

morning Diva and all who follow!
just off to help DH with his milkround (second half as he's been up since 1.30 am) as he has sciatica.
Hope everyone's well.
Back later xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning msd and all who follow,it is very mild here in North Kent at the moment I too feel a bit heavy-headed as though a good walk will blow the cobwebs away.Perhaps I will start with some strong coffee to get my motor going, don't think I could eat fudge though, not this early in the morning.
Good luck with the milk round taplady. I remember helping my elder brother out years ago when I was a young lass, and he used to do 6-8 villages in the wilds of Oxfordshire. He worked then for Jobs the dairy and had a huge milk van because of getting through during the bad weather.I actually learned to drive at 13 on this van.The steering wheel was vast, and the gear box was an absolute beast but it was great fun in those days, circa1956 very few cars on the road to worry about.
I have the school run this morning as my three youngest DGS's are feeling better and are back to school this morning.
Danny my eldest DGS has had a couple of days at Pinewood this week as a production runner on a t.v. show that will be aired on Boxing night.Apparently its an All Stars Impressionists show, and he has been looking after Bobby Davro,Les Dennis & co.He said it was brilliant and although his days have been long ones, as its a two hour drive each way from Kent he has had such a great time working there. He starts full time in January for the production team and he is walking on air at the moment .
I also have my youngest DGD Holly arriving for breakfast, as she has her college placement this morning .She will be here every day for the next two weeks as she has a block placement starting on Monday so I shall be up with the lark and cooking by 7.45 a.m. for the next two weeks.
Then this afternoon I have my history course.I'm quite looking forward to that as its WW1 poets today .Well time I got the coffee pot on the go Have a good day everyone
Take care

Morning. Last day off before working the weekend and beyond.
Not sure what's going on. OH may get teaching supply or not .... Weather is cool and showery.
Had great home made pasties for tea last night, I had a whopper of course where the ends hang over the edge of the plate...
Tuned into an American radio station which plays Christmas music from now till Christmas. Hooked it up through the stereo, so getting in to the mood. Try it. It is Christian, so expect some of that too.
Off to eden tonight to ice skate with the family. It's only 4 miles away, so easy to get there and daughter works there, so won't cost more than £2 each
Bought some new Colgate sensitive toothpaste yesterday.... It actually works like it does on the adverts, well so far anyway... Wilkinsons had it on sale.
Well, have a good day....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Good morning,
Just got DD off to college. She has to get the bus so early on a Monday and Friday. She was very demotivated but it does looks very dark and blustery out there!!
Now Im gonna have another cuppa and have my snoozy dog on my lap. She loves my new recliner chair and can just fit in down the side. Im going to find her a blanket as I dont want my new chair to smell like a dog basket. Having said that my kids always loved my dogs baskets when they were toddlers - I used to find them curled up asleep in the dog basket (kids not dogs)
OS - well not a lot today. We are quite well organised although I MUST start thinking about christmas. Oh no...to be honest Im dreading it!
Have a good day,
love MollyxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all,
We had a terrific storm here in the night, thunder and lightning, little dog was terrified poor thing.
I have an unexpected day off today, there has been a problem with the house move, and I will probably spend most of the day on the phone trying to sort it out, fingers crossed.
Tonight I have three girls coming back for tea, and to get ready for the gig, I will then drop them off, and dd's dad will pick them up and bring them all back to sleepover, this is the last time i will do all the running around , its part of dd's Birthday treat from her dad.
The girls have hm pizza for tea, (one of them has a nut alergy ), so I might just give them a few chips and salad with it.
Haribo, I hope Dtwin 1 is feeling a biit brighter.
Jackie, I love hearing all your stories, you should start to write them down in a kind or journal.
Have good days all xx
edited to say, Happy Birthday to Miss Sistercas xx0 -
Morning all
I'm not starting work until 9 today & we are finishing early too, mind you I didn't get a lie in as it's hubbys last day today & he started at 6:30. He's at work now & I've come home for breakfast & a browse on here.
DS came round last night for a telling off about his broken ribs & sausage & mash with cauliflower cheese.
I also popped in to see DD & the DGK, DGD is being potty trained, she's got as far as standing by the potty shouting weewee, whilst piddling all over the floor!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning everybody!

Up early this morning - couldn't sleep from about 4am, and finally gave up trying at about 5.30am. Have sorted through a few boxes (can't find my big box of stationery - need a jiffy bag to post a b'day pressie to my friend's little boy), and I know I have packets of every possible size that I picked up in Poundland...oh well, if I don't locate them by mid-morning, I'll have to buy one in the village Post Office - that'll guarantee I find them this afternoon!!
Have had breakfast and some strong coffee (feeling a bit groggy on about 3hrs sleep!). Am planning to start some batch cooking in a bit, then I'll feel less guilty about going to the craft fair - not that I was planning to feel too guilty...and I was definitely planning to go
(but thanks for the enouragement, Diva - I feel that its definitely the right thing to do now!
).
Lunch will be early - picked up some lovely smoked ham in Aldi this week, so will be ham salad sandwiches with philadelphia on toasted bread (I don't know why, but I have a thing for toasted bread for sarnies at the moment?!
). Dinner will probably be jacket potatoes, maybe with a Weightwatchers Creamy Mushrooms recipe - nice and quick but also yummy for a cold winter's evening...
Hope everybody has a good day today. Hugs to all who need/want one :grouphug:, and congrats to all who have reasons to celebrate! :j

Good morning all!
My mum came and helped me retrieve the christmas decorations from the storage part of the loft(desk needed to be moved) so dd is now getting very excited. I may put the tree up over the weekend but it does seem awfully early but I suppose shes only going to be so excited for a couple more years. Shes been rehearsing for their school nativity and keeps coming out with strange songs and actions-shes just singing which at first I was disappointed about as some of reception have 'parts' but she'd never have coped with speaking in front of all the people watching and I don't think I could've coped with my nerves either!
Shopping today and then cleaning. DD has a party this teatime so I'm having a very non OS tea of waitrose lamb rogan gosh which I love but have only had once since dd started school as we have our tea together.
I have some sewing to get done today if I have time, trousers for us both need turning up.
JackieO, i can remember doing about WW1 poets-Wilfred Owen and one that began with B thats its now really annoying me that I cant remember-might have to google him!
Haribo hope DTwin is improving.
Hope everyone has a good day.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.
Myself, DD, 2 cats, 35 weeks pregnant.
Debts- CC's- V-775, F-1253.10, BC-3291.80, T-1429.08. Total-6748.98. All 0%. Aim- to pay £200 per month.0 -
Morning all ,
Haribo - hope your DD is feeling better
Agree with redruby - love hearing your stories JackieO, would buy your autobiography!
Bitsy - hope you're feeling better
It's bright and sunny here. Didn't get too caught in the wind as it seemed to die down a bit as I was walking in the last bit. It's brass monkeys though so I'm wearing a roll neck and have my thick cardi for when I need to pop out at lunch.
So I'm doing my first ballet class in 10 years tonight  What am I thinking?!?!?!!? I just have to remember that my days of auditioning for professional shows are over and to take it easy otherwise I'll end up back in hospital with my knee! Mind you, with the overall condition of me (i.e totally unfit!) I very much doubt I'll give Darcey Bussell anything to worry about :rotfl: Managed to dig out an old pair of shoes too, and I'm not going to buy any kit until I'm absolutely sure that my knee could withstand it on a weekly basis.
OSiness today will involve washing the darks, ironing the whites and lights, and making sure DH doesn't cook everything in the freezer while I'm out at ballet :rotfl:
Have a nice day, hugs to all in need/want xx
ETA: Has anyone heard from Nordictat? Was just wondering how she got on with her trip to Croydon??Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing is just a grain of sand,
What you've been out there searching for forever is in your hands0
