refund after paypal claim closed

I posted previously but can't find it!
long story cut short here!
sold a purse on ebay and buyer claimed it was damaged and wanted refund, asked foe pics of damage and she refused. She then went to paypal, but refused to send it back till she got a refund. Paypal seen she wasn't cooperating and it went in my favour and they closed it and gave me my money back. This was last week.
today recieved a message from buyer saying she has sent the purse back to me today for a refund. What do I do now? Paypal found it in my favour, I told her if it was damaged to send me picture and I would refund if it was. But she refused to send me any, I think its not damaged at all and she just wasn't happy with it.
do I have to give her a refund now that she has sent it even though paypal said no?
thanks!!

I would wait for the purse to arrive as you may find that it hasnt been sent anyway.
If it arrives & it is in a different condition to what you sent out I personally wouldnt refund (although what happens with the purse I dont know).
If it arrives & it still is in a re-saleable condition I would refund the cost of the actual purse paid as a gesture of goodwill, but deduct the true postage cost to you & any fees you have paid so you are not out of pocket.
As far as Im aware the ball is in your court as Paypal has closed the dispute so the buyer would not be able to claim again, the only thing you may get is a neg, but that could happen anyway.
  • I wouldn't trust that she hadn't damaged the purse herself now that Paypal haven't gone in her favour

Well the big giveaway was her refusing to send me a picture of the damage which made me think it wasnt actually damaged. Then she refused to send it back untill she had her refund, I tried to explain as soon as I recieved it I would refund it but she point blank refused to send it without having her money back first. So I let her go to paypal as I knew they would tell her to send it back first. She still refused on the paypal messages saying she isnt prepared to send it back to me till she had the refund. So I let it run out and paypal seen it in my favour and let me keep the money.
So now Im thinking like you and think she has now damaged it and sent it back thinking she will be getting a refund. But if she has damaged it and I refund I wont be able to sell it on which means Im left with a damaged purse. When I sent it to her it was brand new still with tags etc. I wouldnt mind if it was a few £s but it was £50!

What I really want to know is that if do recieve it back do I legally have to refund her the money? Paypal have told her she isnt getting a refund so I know she cant put in another claim against me if I dont refund.

But she might not of even sent it! She posted it first class yesterday so she said but I didnt recieve it today in the post!

    Update & Question!!

Still not recieved the purse she supposidly sent back to me! Just got yet another message from her asking if I have recieved it yet and threatning to go to paypal again?? Can she do this? I thought you couldnt reopen a closed claim? Especially when it went in my favour. Do you think she is at it??

Ask her for a tracking number. I cant see how she can open another paypal dispute for the same item but the EBay pro's on here will know for def.

I dont think i would refund now even if she has sent the purse back. It went thru the dispute she had her chance to send it back and have the refund. If it was me i would sent the purse back to her. She will prob neg you anyway.

TBH I'd block her and ignore her.

Even if she could re-open a closed case (I don't know if she can) she would have to prove that she returned the item by a trackable method. Clearly she hasn't done that because she says she sent it by first class post and is now asking you if you've received it. So whatever, she has no chance and is just playing you.

Unfortunately there are strange people in all walks of life, they are best avoided.

Considering she sent it by 1st class post 7 days ago, 1st class gets to 90% of mainland UK in 24 hours, it isn't coming. She is being a chancer. I wouldn't be suprised if she keeps pestering you so she can then contact RM and then claim £34 off them for lost parcel lol.
If the purse turns up, IF, then review it's condition. I would maybe check it isn't a fake you got back too. Until you get it there is no point worrying about it.

thanks for the replies!! I told her I hadn't recieved it and she said she spoke to paypal and they told her she can reopen the claim and she sent it recorded. She clearly didnt otherwise she would of checked on it rather than asking me if its here yet

I would respond telling her to claim the money back from Royal Mail, as it's obviously got lost in the post!!
