  • Sorry, how do you know they are microwave and dishwasher safe please?
I can't find it on the site?
Or have you actually already got them?
If so, is the pattern black or silver please?
Apologies for all the questions. :)

I bought the set in store this evening, so have it with me. Each piece is stamped with the Royal Doulton blurb on the underside, which includes the words 'Dishwasher and Microwave safe'. The pattern is very shiny silver.

  • It is 'platinum' so a very dark silver :) HTH

Thanks, that is what I thought which is why I was wondering if it was metallic and therefore not microwave proof?

I need a new set but not sure if these would be too good for every day?
Then again, the set I was looking at worked out at the same price but I should imagine these are much better quality. :)

I think it could be down to being an old pattern. Next to the name 'Royal Doulton' it says 2004, but I don't know if that's for the pattern or the name trademark?
I used to work in a concession in Debehnams near the Royal Doulton concession, and got familiar with their stock. This was in 2003/4, and I remember this "Platinum" design being available then.

  • For me personally, these are too good for every day and will be my Christmas/special occasion set along with the new cutlery I splurged on from TK Maxx :D

This did actually cost the same as the 'every day' set I have, but is far far nicer. A lot of the sets I saw for a similar price came with mugs and I was specifically after a set with a cup and saucer for after dinner tea and coffee.

I too was surprised that it was dishwasher and microwave safe, given the silver pattern on it - I would have still bought it (who is going to be microwaving their christmas dinner?!) but I've inspected all the pieces and they all say that they are dishwasher and microwave safe!

  • Thanks for all your help, Belle!
Went for 10 place settings - although only really need 8 - so I've always got a few spares to allow for any breakages.
    Ordered two platters too.
In recent years I've regretted asking for M&S crockery on my wedding list (many moons ago) and wished I had asked for Doulton instead as I've always believed it was way out of my price range to buy myself!
Can't wait for it to come! :D

The amount of Grabbits I've gone for today, I wouldn't be surprised if my credit card company calls me tomorrow to check it's not been stolen!!! :o
