I must say I cant stand walking round a TV shop looking at all the different TVs, because you can tell some are set up better than others, and also the demo video they tend to show is extremely annoying.
I was in Argos yesterday and they had all these big HDTVs on display but they were feeding them a really !!!!!! quality signal - what's the point!
RIK can I ask if you think extended warrantys are worthwhile on LCD TVs? My dad bought his from Richer Sounds and the 5 year warranty costs £67, he said he'd think about it. The sales guy said LCDs tend to last about 3 or 4 years then develop problems.0 -

hmmm. Well some manufacturers (eg sony) have extended warranties anyways. So theyll sort anything major out for the 1st 3 years
As to whether or not theyre worth it? Im going to have to say I think they are worth it for piece of mind (So long as theyre not too expensive).
But for the record, I personally NEVER pay for extended warranties on anything (I like to live dangerously like that)
John Lewis give out 5 year guarantees with theirs which I think is very good:idea:0 -
I dont take them out myself either. I reckon you save money in the long run unless you're exceptionally unlucky!0

With respect to tvs its generally meaningless.
English broadcasts and dvds etc are at 50Hz, blurays at 24Hz and NTSC (American) 60Hz
So the best conversion you can get is making 50Hz into 100 or 200 or whatever. HOWEVER, many tvs with a '100 Hz' mode tends to look no better than its 50Hz mode and in some cases even worse due to its poor processing.
So to sum up, dont read ANYTHING into the Hz range when buying a tv. (Unless you want a really surreal effect as a lot of modern tvs have some form of 'motion processing', which never looks right)
i agree with this. we have a 100hz and dont notice any difference. the only way i would get a 100hz tv in the future is if it cost the same as the other tvs i was interested in and the 100hz was the only difference.0 -

if you can find the tv you are interested in cheaper elsewhere, even online richer sounds will match it on the condition you buy their 5 year cover. the tv we got last year was £1000 in most shops. it was £850 in richer sounds. i found it at robert whytes for £710. so i got it from richer sounds including the 5 year cover for £770.0
