I'm trying to gauge the price. looked on autotrader, pistonheads and gumtree and theres a big range of prices.
Would be handy if they revealed the actual selling price, I know pistonheads reveal what has sold..and it seems that only 'bargains' will shift. I'm sure 80% of stuff doesnt sell.....because fo the price
Exactly, they don't sell because of the price;)
A few years ago I bought and sold a few cars to make a few quid, pre net days.
To arrive at my asking price I would ring a few sellers ina month old autotrader and ask if they'd sold the car, when i'd convinced them of my dissapointment I would ask;
"By the way, what did the car sell for", as in "I would have paid more". They always told me.
Think about it.:money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

No, only on cars that are covered by the owners insurance.
I don't think any policy covers anyone to drive an otherwise uninsured vehicle, whereafter you get into the realm of motor trader insuranceI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

having said that, traders ask even more.
I've never understood why they can command a higher price, most of them do nothing except clean it and pass it on0 -

If you dont know what the car is worth how do you know the trade in deal was so bad? You could always ebay it setting the reserve at what the trader offered you (or a bit higher to take fees into consideration). That way you wont lose out on what you could have got.0 -

I know roughly what the car is worth (by using whatcar used guide, and the online classifieds) and I know what the dealer would sell it for.
Not keen to use Ebay......heard too many stories of people being messed about0 -
Look, it's worth only what someone will pay for it.
Yes, the dealers offer may have been low, but it would have saved you this hassle, wouldn't it?
Take a look on ebay, you can see what cars actually sold for on there.
Or when you advertise it, put "offers around £XXXXX" , with what you think may be the right price. Then people may come and look, even if they think your price is a bit high.
Personally I'd accept less money just to save having to re-tax and insure.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Dealer offered me £350. Trade would sell it for £1000-£1200. People advertising (private ads) exact spec and mileage for £850-£900 on the classifieds. I'd take 650. 6 months tax is £68, isnurance is £14/mth.
Someone offered me 500 and gave me the 'buyers market' 'it's nearly christmas' 'everyone's skint' routine. I suspected they were a reseller0
