2 cars, what to do?
I've recently bought a new car but have yet to sell my old one. I wanted to sell it privately as the dealer gave me an insulting offer.
The problem is this, its so close to christmas and I'm so busy with stuff that I can't really sell it now.....so I was thinking of either putting it off the road, OR putting my new one off the road for a while. The old one needs it's tax renweing next week.
The problem is, the 'off-the-road' car will end up with a flat battery and I can't take it for an occasional spin because it'll be untaxed/uninsured.

If i were you i would keep your new car off the road and re-tax and use your old one (therefore it will be in good working condition when you sell).
How about printing off a for sale sign with the old cars basic details,an ono price and your mobile number, put on on each passenger window. so at least while you are driving it round it may catch someones eye.
I tend to do this at supermarkets and get quite a good response. also go in2 ur local supermarkets and ask to advertise your car on their free boards. i always put a photo on and get a good response.
Theres two very quick ways to sell your car! - Good luck OP!0 -
It's a total hassle selling a car when it's not taxed and insured etc, reallty tempting to test drive it illegally. The potential buyers insurance won't cover it either if yours doesn't. Price it right and do the above plus put an add on pistonheads classified section, that's free 2 including good sized pictures.
It doesn't take long to sell a car, you only need one buyer, so irrespective of xmas I would try to get shut asap, it can only go down in value
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Might be the ideal christmas present for some one...I'd keep trying to sell it, personally.0

Don't forget that if you declare one car as SORN, it has to actually be off the road (kept on a private driveway, etc). If you're worried about the battery going flat, you can always get in it and start the engine once a week or so and sit there whilst the engine runs for, say, 5 mins without actually driving it onto a public road.No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0

Or just lock car manually and remove/disconnect the battery0 -
I'd also stick it on gumtree as well, with it being free. I've sold my last two cars on there very quickly. A five year old Focus sold in a couple of days and a nine year old Clio was off the drive and paid for within 24 hours of posting the ad. Both time people came from over an hour away!
Just price it right and be honest with the description and pics. If it is 'as described' then there is no real reason why someone who comes to view shouldn't buy it.0 -
Ahh! dont do that. Apart from not being good for the engine it wont charge the battery sufficiently - the effort to start the car take more than 5 minutes charge - plus the extra trickle load of the electrics will mean a flat battery faster than if you just left it.If you're worried about the battery going flat, you can always get in it and start the engine once a week or so and sit there whilst the engine runs for, say, 5 mins without actually driving it onto a public road.
Either drive it properly occasionally (good idea as it will get damp inside otherwise) or as per last post actually disconnect the battery (ensure you have radio codes if needed) and if its going to be months maybe keep it charged with a £15 battery maintainer (charges at low Amps to keep it ready - can be used for the battery in a car too that you dont drive much - has a very long lead).0 -
Sounds like the majority vote is "sell is ASAP".
I'll see what i can do.
Thanks!0 -

I'm trying to gauge the price. looked on autotrader, pistonheads and gumtree and theres a big range of prices.
Would be handy if they revealed the actual selling price, I know pistonheads reveal what has sold..and it seems that only 'bargains' will shift. I'm sure 80% of stuff doesnt sell.....because fo the price0
