Can't see that they would want to claim as it would increase their premiums and they've not been at fault??
Its my property thats caused the damage so I'm assuming full responsibity
I've not had any dealings with home insurance before so I could be wrong!
Suppose it depends how much you like your neighbours/want to stay friends and how much it will cost to fix.
if you think of it like a car accident, if someone drives into you, you have to claim on your own insurance and then they sort it whether its your fault or not.
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

Great neighbours and we share a path so wouldn't want to fall out over this. They've lived here over 20 yrs and I'll not be moving anytime soon. they even bring my wheelie bin in every week:D

I've never claimed on car insurance either so really have no clue of the procedure. I'm going to phone my insurance tomorrow and see what the script is, cheers.

'Damage by flying trampoline'. Got to be a new one :D
  • My mum lives on a farm and it's fairly open. Last year when we had all the wind, it took off over 2 feilds! I couldn't believe it. It was totally ruined though :(

I would think your neigbour would have to claim on their insurance as storm damage??
If so then you could offer to pay some of the excess as a good will gesture maybe

on their insurance ? they havent caused the damage, the neighbours trampoline has so surely that means csh is liable for damage

Theres absolutely no way on this earth I would loose my no claims discount for damage caused from someone else.

Thats what I thought, but I don't know how these things work  I'd be livid if it was the other way round and they told me to claim on my insurance!
Just waiting til 9ish then I'll phone my insurance and give them all a good laugh:o

Quite a few years back our guttering was basically hanging on for dear life, the wind was horrendous anyhow I phoned the insurance company and said if I didnt get mine fixed immediately there was a strong chance mine would pull the neighbours off.
I was told to go ahead and get mine done because if the neighbours came off my insurers would also be liable for next doors, by doing mine immediatley cut their costs down.
Im presuming that you are liable and insurers will pay up because its storm damage, but obviously they will be able to tell you more.
I wouldnt have thought it could go over a 5ft fence

I know! We reckon the wind has lifted one side then its tipped over the fence on its side like a giant sail and landed on their house:o It bounced off and made a break for their next door living room window so it could have been much worse:eek:

Its currently lying out the back with its legs off under about ten slabs

While I agree with you in principle, if my neighbours trampoline damaged my house and their insurance was not going to cover it I would claim on my insurance.

i would not want my neighbour to have to stump up potentially thousands.

however I would expect them to pay any excess, and maybe a few quid towards next years increased premium.

Be honest with them and I'm sure you can work it out, good neighbours are invaluable!!!

i would wait till light and go and see the damage. contact your insurance. with our insurance everything in our garden and sheds are covered so we would be covered you may be surprised to find your policy does the same also.

if they don't then get in 3 glaziers to give them a report on the damage and how much it is likely to cost. then take it from there.

hope it gets sorted quickly and not too costly.
