My signal dropped to about 20% recently on my desktop so I bought one of these as a last resort before buying a homeplug.

Glad I did as I now have an excellent signal all the time with the aerial on top of the desk.

Have you tried changing channel on the router sometimes you can get interference from dect phones or other equipment its worth a try

What Buffalo router or WAP unit do you have ? More than likely set to automatic.

It depends on your router but it will be some where in the wifi/Wan setup
