Is it Premium recordings you are trying to watch i.e. movies or sport? If so then the card needs to still be subscribed to those channels for it to decode the recording.
The reason is that the recording is held in a raw format on the hard drive just how it arrives before being decoded. It is then decoded and unencrypted everytime you watch it. If your card no longer is authorised to decrypt those channels it cant do it. As far as I know though the FTA recordings should still decode with the old card used when recorded even though no longer subscribed.
No the card must have a valid Sky+ subscription on it to view FTA channel recordings. To view non premium channel recordings it must be the original card with valid sub for those channels and to view premium channel recordings it must be the original card and paired to the box.
