  • Hello, cant believe its Sunday night already!

I have had a lovely weekend. Did some more Christmas shopping yesterday and spent £33.00 so that leaves me £162.00 left out of my Christmas budget. Hoping to finish the last few bits i need to get next weekend as i am working everyday this week.

Have also spent just under £20.00 out of my personal allowance on drinks for last night. Had a great evening, it was so much fun, didn't get to bed until 3pm though, so today hasn't been as productive as i would have liked. As i still haven't got the Christmas decorations down from the loft!

So targets for this week are
    1. get decorations down from the loft
    2. write and send Christmas cards
    3. have at least 3 NSD

Ok off to bed now as iam really tired and this week at work will be one of the busiest of the year. Hope everybody has a happy Monday. night night xxx

  • hello, its been ages since i've updated as life has been so busy.I will be glad to get back to normal in the new year!

Last week i managed to save £50.00 out of my weekly budget and had £12.23 left out of my shopping budget, so i have put the odd change in my change pot and the £10.00 in my savings account bringing my grand total up to £475.00. yay!!

I also managed to complete my targets as well. The christmas tree looks lovely, and all cards have been sent off and an added bonus was i managed to have 4 NSD. So feeling very chuffed with that.;)

I have my works Christmas meal tomorrow night which im looking forward to and it should be spend free. So another bonus :D

Thursday is a day off to get over the Christmas do and get the last few stocking fillers that i need. I bought a couple more presents last week which cost £54.00 so i have £108.00 left out of my budget, which is way more than i need for stocking fillers so hoping to be able to add at least another £80.00 to my savings next week :D

Really pleased with how much i have managed to save so far this month :j

Hey Karrie, I am still reading your posts with interest - keep it up.

Well done on all your savings (and Christmas jobs) - good for you. :j

I also saved a little this week - had a weekly budget of £20 and only spent £13.58 - had a couple of Christmas lunches at work that I couldn't get out of - am going to save the £7 odd. I've decided that in 2010, I am really going to try and save some serious money. I think I posted before that I am going to go for about £4,000. My budget for grocery shopping this month is £200 and I have been way under so far - thanks to lots of nectar points. Tomorrow I am off to Tesco where I have managed to save £21 worth of saving stamps this year - so hopefully will be quite a low shop tomorrow. Anything left out of the grocery shop goes in the pot - a bit like your system as well.

Hello, I am enjoying reading this thread too. This year I have hardly saved anything and have instead frequently used my overdraft for the first time in years. This is about to change when I am starting a new job in January so i will definetely be saving in 2010. Thanks for your inspiration to help me start thinking about saving more.

EC12345, thanks for mentioning the shopping pot, I shall set one of those up in the New Year. Hope you have a lovely holiday in Venice, I went there a few years ago and it's a great place. Just remember in Venice that you don't always pay the price you see on the menu in restaurants, read the small text at the bottom of the menu in the window. You might pay extra, for things like eating inside/eating outside/sitting on the balcony etc.and there are also extra vat to pay for tourists when eating out.

You might be interested in joining this thread about saving the pennies, lots of useful ideas on this thread. I shall try to put the link on here but it's the first time I am doing it so hopefully it will work.

    Good luck to you all.

Hi Becky, thank you for the tips on Venice, that's really helpful to know.

You should start a shopping pot in the new year. Mine is finishing on 31 December - had a quick count up today - £533 - not bad at all - husband is saving £2 coins and has exactly £100 so the total for the pot stands today at £633. Ours will start again on 1 January. Did quite a big shop today so hopefully will not need much now by the end of the year so any savings from the grocery shop can go in the pot.

Me, you and Karrie should all motivate each other in the New Year to save as much as possible.

Thank you for your post Becky. :beer:By the way, have read the "save the pennies" on the old style board - but haven't read it for a while - going over there now.

    Good luck.

  • Hello all, i hope everyone is well and getting in the festive mood

Wow Emma £633.00 in the pot thats brill well done. It just goes to show how the little things can add up. I had a sealed tin which i opened in Oct it had just under £500.00 in it which paid for a weekend London trip for me and my dd we had a great time.:j

Becky thanks for the info on sneaky ways to save the pennies. Your right there are lots of useful ideas on that thread and im going to look to put some of them into practice.;)
I also agree with Emma that we should all try to motivate each other in the New year as it really does help knowing that other people are striving for the same things.

So an update on this last week.My shopping came in at £44.57 so odd change in the pot and £10.00 in my savings account along with £50.00 out of my weekly budget, bringing my grand total so far to £535.00. :j

I have also finished my Christmas shopping with £76.00 left out of that budget:D Iam not going to put that into my savings just yet as on Christmas day i will be cooking for 6 so i will probably use some of it towards some festive cheer:beer:

I have combined this weeks shopping money with next weeks as its Christmas and did a big shop today which came in just under £75.00 and all i have left to get is some fresh foods on Wednesday night, which should see me through to the end of the year.

I really enjoyed my Christmas do on Wednesday night and it was totally spend free, wish every night out could be like that.

Right off to sort out my targets for the week and have a glass of wine. Back tomorrow with my targets for the next week. Have a good Saturday night all xxx

    Evening all

I have had a really busy productive day. Cleaned the house from top to bottom and have caught up with all my ironing. I love to start the week knowing that everything is sorted.;)

Ok tasks for this week are
    To have 5 NSD
To have wrapped all presents by Wednesday night.
To enjoy the run up to Christmas :D

Today has been a NSD and i think that other than Wednesday i will have no reason to spend any money this week.

Right off to bed now as tomorrow will be quite busy at work as its the last posting date for Christmas.Wishing you all a happy Monday.

Hello all. It's boxing day so thought I would update - only problem is am very tempted to get a few things in the sales - more on that later .....

Karrie, well done with all your savings. Believe me, the odd £10 that you save on your shopping soon adds up. I did a quick shop today and only spent £25 odd - had a budget of £50 as well - so the change went in the pot. When I got home, we counted up all the change in the shopping pot - and the grand total is ... £670. Last week I found some old make up in a drawer that I had never worn and someone bought it off me at work for £15 - can you believe it - I was very happy - so that was an extra £15 in the pot. Anyway we are banking the contents this week and the pot will start again next week at the beginning of 2010.

Anyway, my aim this year was to save £1,500 - got quite a lot of xmas money as presents this week and instead of spending it put it straight in the bank and transferred it to my savings - my total savings this year are about £1712 (my signature says the exact amount). Am really pleased and still have £100 to pay in next week. I feel I've done so well, that I've treated myself to a couple of new pairs of shoes that I've had my eye on for some - and yes they had been reduced in the sale - bargain :j

My target for next year is to save £4,000 (this however will include the savings I have already made to date).

Off now for a restful day - just going to watch tv all day and have some nice food/chocolates later.
