Most Requested Wedding Songs in the UK-Why?!

Just stumbled across this and it made me think, why does everyone choose the same songs for weddings? Are we collectively soppy as a nation or are there really no romantic songs out there, that people relate to? I find that hard to believe. The list also made me feel a bit sick- do you think Shania is rich now- 2 songs in the top ten, her life's work complete?! Did anyone hear or use a better song for their wedding, I hope so, and what was it or would it be? I'm not saying they are all bad and if they really mean something than fine, but how can they mean so much to so many people?

Nothing off tht list will be played at my wedding either - our first dance will be to It Must Be Love by Madness. We've got a ska band playing so will have ska and reggae music all night!Live on £11k in 20110

Nor mine :rotfl:I couldn't listen to any of them without wanting to smash my head against the wall.
We aren't having a first dance (thank goodness!) and our playlist will include The Prodigy, Foo Fighters, Goldfrapp and plenty of Pink Martini (fab band from America):j:smileyheaGot married in beautiful Sorrento 11th May 2010:smileyhea0 -

I am having the 2nd song on the list played at my wedding but not by choice!!!
We have given the guest the option of picking a song they would like to have played in the evening and SIL 2b has picked that as it's her and her chaps 'song'.
My other half has such a massive dislike to the Whitney Houston song that I think the wedding would be off if i requested that for our first dance, LOL0 -
Possibly Savage Garden, but the rest are not my thing!
Though we are having Iris by Goo Goo Dolls which i guess is cheesy to everyone, but not us!I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j

Iris by the Goo Goo dolls is not cheesey at all I love that song, my absolute favourite!:T
I am not ashamed to admit that we are having our first dance to Lonestar Amazed. It has been our song for our whole relationship and as of tonight (I have just decided!) I will be walking down the aisle to the instramental of Kissing you by Des'ree (the love theme from Romeo and Juliet) because it is a beautiful piece of music.

Tell you what bugs me.
When someone asks what songs people are having played, then they pick one that someone has mentioned.
I thought the whole point of the first dance is to choose a song which means something to the bride and groom??
So anyone elses choice is out really isn't it?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Donna Summer - This time i know it's for real
I changed our dance song on the night to this for hubby............think he and a few others were shocked.......all in the name of fun
What would I have to do
to get you to notice me too
do I
stand in line
one of a million
admiring eyes
Walk a tightrope way up high
write your name across the sky
I'm going crazy just to let you know
you'd be amazed how much I love you so baby
when I get my hands on you I won't let go
this time I know it's for real
Should I write or call your home
shout it out with a megaphone
radio, TV news
got to find a way
to get my message to you
To say I love you with a neon sign
anything to make you mine
I'm going crazy just to let you know
if I waited too long for you I might explode baby
I've been around the block enough to know
that this time I know it's for real
Oh baby
this time, this time, this time, this time
oh baby
this time, this time
Walk a tightrope way up high
write your name across the sky
I'm going crazy just to let you know
you'd be amazed how much I love you so baby
when I get my hands on you I won't let go
this time I know it's for real
I'm going crazy just to let you know
if I waited too long for you I might explode baby
I've been around the block enough to know
that this time I know it's for real0
