My car has died

The car carried on struggling and I took it to another garage who said that according to the diagnostics it would need new coil pack which they fitted and still no better - they advised to try and get rid asap as they knew I was planning on replacing the car anyway or otherwise I would end up throwing money at it. Anyway, within a couple of days it completely died, would barely move - couldn't even drive it to a garage. It wasn't firing properly so my dad replaced the spark plugs and it improved enough to drive to a garage although it still wasn't firing properly. Can't remember exactly what was wrong with it but it was major problems with the engine (head gasket may have been involved) - spent £450 getting it repaired just so I could part ex it against a new car. Even after it was repaired it wasn't how it used to be, struggled on hills ect and I felt like it was only a matter of time before something else went wrong! I have now part exchanged it (got 2,000 for it so it was worth my repairing it) and got a fiesta.
Anyway, my point is if the engine has been damaged due lack of oil it may not be worth repairing it, unless you can sell it on quickly for more then cost of repairs.
I hope you get something sorted with it and aren't too much our of pocket
I spent about £600 in total due to the lack of oil problem - on a car I wasn't planning on keeping! I am now looking a it as a lesson learnt - I will be very careful about checking oil in future!

It was 2004 so not old enough for scrappage scheme. I checked various car valuation sites and got an idea that it would be worth about 2000-2500 on part ex - think it would have been worth a bit more if milage hadn't been so high (86k) as it was dynamique model so had alloys, climate control, auto wipers and lights ect and was in good condition other then engine problems!
Try http://www.whatcar.com/valuations or http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/ for valuations, although it does sound like it probably wont be worth repairing to trade in or sell.
If you want to scrap it scrapyards will usually collect but then they pay you next to nothing for the car so it's best if you can get it there. Do you think you could get it moving again? Would save alot of money on getting it moved and you could try putting it on ebay for spares and see if that will work out better then scrapping it?0 -
When the head gasket goes the cars never the same you are aswell getting rid rather than take the chance of the garage "fixing" it.His Heart Proved He Was A RedSuarez, SuarezWe Bought The Lad From AmsterdamWe Know He's Not a Chelsea Fan.Fernando Torres = El Judas0

Only the Nissan Scrappage Scheme isn't really a scrappage scheme at all, just a discount scheme.0 -
most scrappys will supply you a engine and fit it allot less than £600 and if theres one there in running order( not taken out) you could hear the engine running also.. or trall ebay and buy an engine out of a newer model and get garage to fit it still be cheaper than then repair bill. most scrappys will give you a 30 day garentee on the engine too just make sure you get the receipt.0

thanks but its cat D listed, therefore really i cant see myself paying even £300 odd for the cars value now being so low.
any advice what i can do tho?
its on a main road as i dont have a rive, so shall i just strip it and cover it at the same time?0 -
The emulsification is suggesting you had a head gasket problem...however, the temp rising and it blowing cold air along with the steam says you've probably lost all your water- check to see if you have a split hose somewhere.Only dead fish go with the flow...0
