I remortgaged earlier this year to have a new kitchen and bathroom installed. This was taken on by Robert Kent of Sheffield who quoted me just short of £9000 for the work. He missed various items that were quoted for, Plastering Bathroom walls, bathroom lights, radiator valves. His original quote was for the work to be done over 15 days, this ended up taking over 6 weeks. We were left without any means to cook after he removed the cooker from our kitchen and took 18 days to fit the new one. His workmanship has deteriated over the last 6 months and he will not repair any of the faults I have with the installations.
Problems are:-
Kitchen Cupboard loose on wall.
Kitchen sink leaking.
Bathroom light he fitted was old light from kitchen and this fused the main fuse, leaving us without upstairs lighting for over 12 hours. I had to call in an emergency electrician to sort this out.
Had to have a plummer out to sort out leaking hotwater pipe in bathroom.
Plug in sink is jammed in the plug hole.
Bath moves, shower screen swings inwards when stood in bath
The list just goes on. Even after sending various letters outlining the problems he has refused to do anything about it. Leaving me unable to afford to have these problems sorted without getting into financial difficulties to cover the costs
So that is Robert Kent (Rob Kent Interiors) of Sheffield. Used to be AM Interiors but he no longer uses that. Lives at 90 Lennox Road, Sheffield just in case he has changed his telephone number.0 -

My warning is also for a Johnson company - A. Johnson Construction of Crewe, Cheshire. The website looks professional and talks about a "team" - this is a one-man band who is over-stretched, extremely disorganised, doesn't do what's asked, is in too much of a hurry to do things right, and hasn't a clue about quoting for jobs and carrying them out within an agreed timescale. He will disappear every Tuesday to go to college and probably be in your home working until near midnight to try and meet his deadlines, all of which doesn't stop him and his sub-contractor(s) stopping for a break/cigarette/snack every hour or so. But, he'll reckon it's all your fault, it can't possibly be his! Thankfully we held the purse strings so had control at the end of the day. Dealing with this man was extremely stressful and not to be recommended. Even though you're living in your home, he will treat it as a pure building site.0 -
Heres a sorry tale and a warning to anyone even considering using this guy. Gareth Walker of Dragon Build. He may have abandoned his website and his business name by now.
I contracted this guy to build an extension and other works that would complete a conversion from a house to two flats.
He estimated the work would take 7 weeks, 7 months later he had abandoned the job in a complete state of disrepair and dodgy work.
the list of faults and incomplete work is very extensive but here are the highlights.
Sloping Floors in new extension
Paved back yard has no fall so fills with water
Kitchen floor has a lovely dip in the middle
Wrong roof insulation and no floor insulation
no building control completion will be allowed, for above
Negligent boiler installation resulting in immediate failure
No gas certificate
No electrical certificate
gas, elec and water services not connected although paid for
Kitchen was installed but missing doors etc
Kitchen worktop was too low for appliances to fit and not level
This guy owes us £25000, we have now discover many other that have been treated the same way by him. we have now, too late discover he has 7 county court attachments to his property
Stay well clear of Gareth Walker of sutton surrey nr london
and thats just the highlights but I think you get the picture.
My lesson , do more homework and then do some more0 -

I can't even go into the trouble this guy has caused me. It's disgusting, these conmen ruin our lives to fund theirs, there should be some sort of register they can go on to be BLACKLISTED!!0 -
Has anyone had any experience of this company? They're well established and looked to be a safe bet but we're having no end of problems with them. Work is being done that isn't to specification, we've had a major leak from a bathroom they installed, our renovations were due to be completed weeks ago but we have a long list of jobs that still haven't been done or are sub standard and they have so far refused to give us firm dates for when they'll finish the work.
Has anyone else had problems with them and if so did they get resolved in the end?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.0 -
It's been a month and still having problems. Does anyone on here know of any sites or forums where I can rate this builder? I've had a very bad experience with them and I'd like to be able to warn others. Are there any sites where you can rate a bad builder?
Or does anyone know of any existing reviews I could look at?0 -
If anyone wants more information or pictures of the mess Thomas Winstanley have made of my house I've put them online at

Update: 6 weeks have passed since my first post and my house is still no further on than it was back then. In fact it's worse in some ways because they've had to take out half my kitchen because it went mouldy due to their negligence with the plumbing and now I'm told they need to take up my bathroom flooring because it's been fitted over badly prepared floor boards. They prepared them!
I've started a blog in the hope that anyone searching on google for some feedback on this company will see just what they've done. It's all true as the pictures will verify.

Buyer Beware - If you're thinking of buying a new home at the Valley Farms development by Michael Anthony Homes, you may appreciate some advice concerning highway noise from the nearby highway. We had visited the development on several occassions to consider buying but changed our minds. It didn't occur to us initially that the highway could be a considerable source of noise - probably because we were in the car with the windows closed. After discussing our intentions with several people, a friend was kind enough to poiint this out. It's easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of buying a new home, but it really pays to do your home work. Visit the development (any development) at different times of the day/week. If you are bothered by noise, you may want to look elsewhere.0
