Many years ago, can`t find a linky, there was a party called " The No Helmets Party " which I believed started ( and most likely finished ) in Bedford. This, I believe, was a protest from certain Sikh representatives who objected to wearing crash helmets. Might give them ago.

Are they now the 'No Helmuts Party,' otherwise known as UKIP? :p

First candidate to eat a live snake gets to be PM?

    Finally, a use for Mandelson:cool:

Surely Mandelson IS a live snake?? ;)

I'm voting as I always have - Lib Dem. Even though my husband thinks it's a wasted vote. Well if everyone "wasted" their vote in this way then the state of British politics would look vastly different!

Disenchantment with politics is understandable after all that has gone on.

It might be best not to get too apathetic, however. That is the way to finding a Hitler in charge when you wake up one morning.

After that, you get no say at all in what goes on, however little you think your vote counts for now...
  • Mark88man, I do remember the tory sleaze of the 90s. I didn't vote tory in 1997. Are you seriously trying to tell me that the current Labour lot are honest? It's mainly Labour MPs that are up for fraud in terms of their expenses, things like moats and duckhouses making better tabloid headlines notwithstanding. Cash for questions got a lot more publicity at the time than cash for peerages did.

The attorney general breaks her on law by paying an illegal immigrant cash in hand at well under the going rate and doesn't even pay the full fine never mind resign.

As for the Miner's Strike etc, I remember it and I remember the mess that the country was in before Thatcher came to power, how the unions held the country to ransom, high inflation, weak government. Life didn't start in 1979 you know.

I am not a young 'un or a "Little Englander" (whatever that means) and as someone who studied European Law I'm well aware that one of the reasons the EU was founded (not that it was called that then) was to prevent war. Does that really mean that we cannot govern ourselves and make our decisions? Does it mean that we have to contribute money to Europe when their accounts aren't even audited? That we have no say in the people that are elected? Please go and patronise somewhere else.

I didn't say Labour were angels, I said competence, honesty and integrity were a lot to expect from the Tories given their record.

I re-read my mail - I was not being patronising - I disagreed with you, but that neither makes me wrong nor rude.
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

I agree there's lots wrong with the way Europe is run. But that doesn't mean I want us to be outside, on our own. I want us to be involved, fixing the expenses dripping tap, eradicating corruption, etc. I want Britain at the heart of Europe.

About a decade ago, a small comedy show called Absolutely featured a sketch which was a remarkable prediction of the future a decade later.

It showed 2 marches by 2 types of people in the electorate :-
    a) the don't knows
    b) the don't cares

Alarmingly, their paths converged at an intersection, resulting in much chanting and placard waving at each other...

"You lot don't know what you want!"

"Oh yeah? Well you lot don't care what we want!"

"Why should we care when you don't even know"

    etc etc

Can we add these to the list please? :)

Where is the option for choosing.... "neither, they're all a bunch of lying f*cking thieves"
    My thoughts exactly.
Mind you I wouldn't trust Camerons bunch, but unfortunately we are in that deep it will take a genius to sort and a long time:confused:
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
