  • I will ask..Can those people who claim against the charges,on the grounds of real hardship still claim. The banks did deal with these claims as a seperate claim to those people just claiming the charges. And most i believe did get payed.

I support Martin in other campaigns - not this compensation culture bollox.
He should promote money saving as per the ethos and title of the site....not money stealing. ;)
NO martins on the other side youre the one who sided with the money stealing banks
and just in case you ask me to justify my claims theyve taken well over 60million pounds worth of tax payers money in the loans given to them without asking for our permission thats theft

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE BANKING, IT IS SUBSIDISED FOR YOU BY THE VERY GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT CAN LEAST AFFORD IT.

Not it is not. It is subsidised by those who can afford it but choose not to modify their behaviour after the first time they are burned.

If you are poor you are simply never going to behave in a way to incur any further charges after your very first episode.

I am saddened by some nasty trolls and smug people on this post today and well done to people who have managed to get out of debt hole but bankcharges mean many sink into greater debts despite trying to pay off their creditors and afford to live!

I saw gordon brown on pmq saying governement owned banks charges are fair yet Lloyds is extortionate and been nightmare to deal with!

The majority of companies gas, elec, water, phone charge you for not having dd in place.

When I consolidated by Lloyds overdraft into a loan, had no choice as they said they taking my of facility away within 7days could not find money to pay off so gone into loan agreement with them means evn more interest for them they also insisted a dd had to be set up from current account. So i cannot close my Lloyds current account until loans finished.

Anyone investigated post office accounts as remember reading something about them in my child benefit info book.

but in todays modern age wages paid by bank, hardly anyone takes cheques now as that used to be handy to pay for groceries few days before pay day, charges for paper bills and not setting up dd seems we get hit somewhere.
Lots of machines charge these days to take out cash as more branches shut down the only cash machines in some communities urban and rural is my local garage which is link and charges £1.99!

i dont disagree with charges just not unjust, dis proportionate charges.
maybe office of fair trading should cap charges so every bank charges the same.
Also when you read about capping it can be misleading

say its capped at 100 a month but you incur charges of 200 then they will take £100 a month, often charges put you over od which accrues more charges which compounds. itself into unmanagable sum.

I wasent thinking i definatly gt a refund but was hoping as would have come in handy for essentials not luxuries.

We dont own our own home so havent benefited from lower interest rates or repayment breaks our private rent is more than freinds pay for their morgage as they brought years ago before the boom.
hubbys says uk is soceity of haves and havenots the gap just keeps getting wider.

spare a thourght for poor woolies staff this time last year being told the bank was letting the company go to wall, labour refused to help!
30,000+people lost their jobs a programme few months ago followed their plight what had happened? do they all find new job?s many went into severe financial hardship as shop wages at junior level not greatest anyway.

we prop up the banks which endless amounts of cash despite them not lending as they promised meaning many small busonesses suffer and more job losses.
They shutting down more branches meaning loss of more jobs at junior branch level.

If my local branch were to shut would meant expensive bus ride to nearby suberb as cant afford a car.
The loss of branches means other retailers within that high street suffer.

the banks dont realise how their actions impact on ordinary people even now.

my husbands company decided no bonus this year as they dident know how they would perform in 2009 as financial year for them starts in jan.
As it happens they done really well, my husbands store has done really well and hes thrashed his targets, if bonus had been in place he would have got thousands which would have paid off the credit cards.

i find it disgusting that other sectors ie retail have been hit by credit crunch caused by banks yet banks and mod staff still get bonuses.

Labour dont get it the uk is broke! we need to cut back within our means yet our leaders dont lead by example!
national debt is huge, nhs education a mess yet we keep pumping money into banks with no strings attached as there so sensibly should have been.

The bank are like one big casino and the house always wins!

Pay off as much as I can 2011 £15008.02/£15,000:j

just had chat with bank customer relations and the converstaion went the way of,claimants will be recieving letters to tell them that "its all over and to go away now please."

They will always use every possibility to make you turn heel and shut up. Even before the ruling. It's not going to stop people.

The ruling WAS NOT on fairness. It was to find out whether the OFT were allowed to investigate whether they were fair. Nothing is set in stone. It's just been put back to stage one, where people fought individually.
  • not really surprising when the Government has got a huge vested interest (our money) in these Banks.
The last thing they need is for the punters to actually get some money back out of their "mates". The stench of this lying Government and its finger prints over everything is overwhelming. Middle England put them in power
and hopefully will see them into the job Q where they can join us and taste real life under Labour.
  • this case has been made into spaghetti, this is oj simpson all over again.

its a sad day for everyone, justice has failed at the very top, what is there left to say.
missed direct debit charges, very odd, theres no pain so how come the big gain,i.e £39.00 for a letter

Lots of people pay penalty charges it's not just the poor, I forgot to move my mortgage payment from one account to the other this month and will incur a charge. It's my own fault.

If they had lost the case and I was going to pay a charge on my account every month, I'd be more annoyed than paying the occasional one because I made an error and used money that wasn't mine.

Look i understand why people are happy about todays judgment. you dont get regular charges so financialy speaking you will be better off without a regular account payment.

But the fact of the matter that this system of charging people who cant pay a direct debits to allow others a free service just seems crazy to me. in what other feild does this happen. I just cant understand how people dont get that this system regularly discriminates against people who genually are struggling to make ends meat!

The same applies for the "tax payers" money the lazy little dole and benefit scroungers are getting then doesn’t it - except this is not a one off to help them out, it is their main source of income. It is not about taking sides here, more screwing your loaf and leading a life with a little integrity and back-bone old man. ;)
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
