So let me get this straight.

The poorest members of society, along with people who have hit bad times either through thier own means or by unforceen / accidental circumstances, pay penalty charges (which in turn makes them worse off and so on) so that people who dont have financial problems can have a free bank account. yep that sounds like a very sensible and fair way to do things! Hell why not apply this model to every aspect of modern society.

Why dont we get the poor and vunerable to pay for everything! at least that way welthy people can have even more free stuff.

And to all the posters who seem to take a great amout of joy from others misery, im very happy for you! Please continue to use and enjoy your free bank account that i am subsudising with my misery! But should you ever fall on hard times, i hope to god that you dont expect any sympathy!

Sooner i can get out of debt and leave this corupt country the better!

(please note the first part of this message was riddled with irony)

Lots of people pay penalty charges it's not just the poor, I forgot to move my mortgage payment from one account to the other this month and will incur a charge. It's my own fault.

If they had lost the case and I was going to pay a charge on my account every month, I'd be more annoyed than paying the occasional one because I made an error and used money that wasn't mine.

Look, nobody is being screwed over here, your little collective of Martin Lewis bandwagon supporters who have been miss-lead to think of yourselves as victims and that although you are crap with money it is not your fault - Rubbish!

If you have accrued fines/bank charges for being a divvy with money then that is your own fault and deserve everything the bank throws at you, however, if the bank have made an error then the fee should be reversed and any detrimental data removed from your records.

Stop blaming others for your lack of financial management, also, cut this crap about being working class bla bla bla - !!!!!! has that got to do with it? I am working class and earn a sub-standard salary for the job that I do but I don't go around ranting and blaming others for my mistakes.

Good old saying: "Never bite the hand that feeds you" ;)

A very good phrase, which should be noted by the banks. It's us that keep you in business, not the other way round you clown.

I can now look forward to continued free banking and NO CHARGES FOR CASH WITHDRAWALS.

Of course you wont, the banks are a business and now they know they can virtually administer fees with impunity why on earth would you think they will stop at unauthorized overdraft charges?, they have got the green light to rip off customers at will and the problem is it won't stop with the banks, I was recently charged 25.00 by my car insurance company because my debit card date had passed and it was replaced but the security number was different so failed when they tried to take payment. It will filter down to everything.

Not so much irony as truth - the poorer and most vulnerable do subsidise the richer, paying as they do a proportionately greater amount of their incomes in tax. That proportion is even greater when it comes to Council Tax, as it's regressive - just so wealthier people can enjoy more of their money.

Well looking on the bright side - it may just wipe the smug look of the self publicising egomaniac who also told us all to put our money into Iceland!

I doubt it. Great sentiment, though! :o
  • and this is the reason you probably have loads of charges. because you are thick.

i earn 1000 a month. I spend 1500 every month. why have i got lots of charges? rich people should pay this for me.

Havnt got any charges to claim buddy, i'm on here supporting the good decent folk of this country. Do us a favor and exclude yourself from that wont ya. ;)
  • I personally have a claim in under hardship with RBS for £2000 which it is unlikely I will ever see again.

I know it's my fault and I was the one who signed up for the account but where else was I supposed to put my money? £35 is a ridiculous amount to charge someone who is on minimum wage for having missed a payment.

It doesn't cost £35 to have a PC tell another PC that you don't have enough money to cover a bill and then send you out an automated letter does it? I'd be happy to pay a fiver or so but £35 is out of the question.

£35/£5.80 = 6 hours work + the ever increasing cost of transport + childcare + PAYE Tax and NI.

That's money that could be better spent elsewhere.

What they need to do is introduce a better system whereby if we do miss a DD payment we should be allowed 7 days in which to have the funds in the account before the bank charges us a penny.

The sad fact is that this country is run by a bunch of toffs who don't care about anything else than how much they can screw out of their expenses accounts/secretaries/the country. The banks are corrupt, the government is corrupt and the rest of us sit back and take it because we feel that there is nothing else we can do.

It's not Labour/Conservatives/RBS/Abbey/HBOS/Barclays fault it's ours for sitting back and taking this for so long!

We can all humph and moan about the situation but is there anyone who will actually do anything about it?

If 1,000,000 people removed £1000 per month from these banks whether through income or savings we'd be taking £1,000,000,000 from them and they'd soon wake up to the harsh realities that we all have to face every day and start begging us to come back.

How about an independent MSE bank Martin? Owned by the people for the people with transparent interest rates, no massive bonuses and no stupid overdraft charges? :money:
Amount of unsecured debt - £9059.83/£9059.83

DMP starts with Payplan on 1st April!! (who's a fool now eh?)

Is there anyway we can get this person banned? They are insensitive and cruel. People all have different situations and people need to appreciate that.
The comment from this user is completly ignorant and selfish.

I know, it's really out of order. I suppose some people enjoy feeling superior to others but it's unnecessary. I have actually reported him/her but I'm sure Techno..will just reappear under a different user name.
  • This is not the end of it there is still plenty of mileage in this the banks have won very little. The oft have still other routes to go down

The banks will use this still as a bullying tactic.

My own personal opinion is the banks need to be taught a big lesson by the customers. What everyone should do is co - ordinate a massive withdrawal of money from the banks. including savings... If everyone done this on a specific day the banks would not be able to cope with this. They certainly would not have the funds
    .
As the government actually owns large parts of the bank they should now say pay up or nationalise them and then sell them off and in the mean time pay the bank charges. They are not fair.

Speaking for the vast majority of bank customers who do use their accounts responsibly and keep in credit, I have done so for more than 40 years, I breath a sigh of relief. We keep our accounts in credit and receive free banking for that. Of course we know the banks use our money, but that pays most of the costs. I have never been under any illusion as to the costs I would incur if I went overdrawn, whether by arrangement or by accident. Should the banks have to pay back money to people who did go overdrawn then the majority of us would have to pay more. Why should we subsidise those who go overdrawn. Well done the Supreme Court!!!
