Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 24th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Well the weather is worse if anything. The wind is gale force and the rain is coming down in sheets, so I may not make it to my Drs appt today, getting from the house to the car is hard enough without battling the weather.

My OH went to the supermarket on his way home from work yesterday and picked up 4 steak pies for £1, a cabbage for 20p, tomatoes for 25p (and only one had to be thrown out) and four cheese and onion pasties for 70p, so that is a few lunches and dinners sorted. He also got some cornish cakes which are like spicy fruit scones with a cherry on top and they were down to just 10p. Tasted fine to us last night when we had two of them with a cup of tea!

Todays lunch will be the rest of the ham, with salad in HM bread and dinner, baked potatoes, steak pie with steamed cabbage and gravy.

My Godson was sent a parking ticket which he was about to pay until I queried him. He left his car on the road in a place he has always left it for about 8 hrs. When he parked there - no bollards and when he came back, bollards and a ticket. Anyway, I rang and then sent in a written complaint and they have cancelled the ticket so I am pleased for him.
For anyone feeling under the weather or poorly head%20cold.gif - get well soon. I hope today is the very best it can be for you. With love and light to all.

Good morning MSD - great result with the parking ticket! How dare the powers that be move the goalposts and expect someone else to pay for it!

Halight - welcome back; we've been wondering where you were!

I hope the weather is easing off in the UK, especially in Cumbria; the news reports are awful and I feel so sorry for all those whose homes and businesses have been damaged. It's about time they spent proper money on flood defences in all the high-risk areas.

I hope all the poorly ones are feeling better. I'm over my cold now but I still have bouts of coughing and sniffling; it's determined to hang around. DH caught it and shrugged it off in a few days, but that's typical for him! Now he's back to making a mess in the house, although the dreaded taking-down-of-the-ceiling still has not happened! Because I was ill, then he caught the same cold, he has been tackling easier jobs, which makes sense I suppose, and he's currently working on the hall at the back of the house, which is ready for plastering now.

Dinner tonight will be a casserole using a chicken carcass - since I've been making the effort to joint a whole chicken rather than just buying legs or thighs, I've been really impressed with how much extra meat I get for my money. A decent-sized chicken will leave me enough meat on the carcass for four more portions if I casserole it, so really money-saving.

Anyway, I'd better go and put the WM and the BM on. I have ironing to do, plus the casserole to prep, so I hope to get all that done this morning, do some online work, then spend the afternoon crocheting some more Christmas presents. I can't believe how quickly the time is going.

Hope you all have a great day.

    Morning.

Day off for me :j not sure what to do. I think it will be stay in the house and sort out stuff. We have far too much stuff hoarded and I think it needs clearing out. Must tidy my office and also help my neighbour generate a CV,

I could e-bay some stuff, but last weekend although I sold all 4 items, the payments came in over 3 days and so I was making daily trips to the post office. Only made a few quid too...

Wet and windy here still, relentless, although the weekend looks like it will get colder and dryer, my favourite weather...

Later night shopping I think in Truro, soak up the ambiance....

Cheers and have a nice day

  • Hi N9eav, to save you making lots of trips to the Post Office, put a message in your information saying 'I only post on Saturdays' or whatever suits you. It will save you some time.

Morning all from a wet & windy Manchester  DD's ceiling sprung a leak last night, well a constant drip would be more accurate, so the roof will have to be looked at. We had some roofers out on Friday so I'll chase them up.

Weekly food shopping this morning, clearing MIL's flat a bit more this afternoon and DS3's first parents evening at 4pm. It's only with his form teacher this time to see how he has settled in then one with all teachers later next year.

Hester Good idea with Ebay I've bought from people who put their posting days on a few times & at least you know where you are with it. Hope it works for you N9eav :D

Diva Glad you managed to post I was sending 'anti blue screen vibes' for your computer ;)

    Bargainbird Brilliant blanket :T

Nic1lou2 Knitting is very addictive :D and watch your purse in wool shops I could spend a fortune :rotfl:

((hugs)) to anyone who needs one or is feeling under the weather xxx

MSD - in our job we get quite a few parking tickets - I generally appeal & would say that we get over 50% wiped off - just shows you how corrupt some councils are.

Well another day of boring paperwork, housework and ironing. Have a very tedious filing job to get done so will attack that this morning.

Do need to pop into town and pay a cheque in, may have a look for some Xmas bits whilst there.

May even get to wrap up some presents today - will probably put that on my daily post until Xmas Eve!

Off now to check the free bingo - must admit Ive done very well on this it really has helped towards Xmas.

    Have a good day.x

    Morning Everyone

Nothing spectacular happening here today.Hubby is still sulking at Liverpool failing to qualify last night so its a quiet day here lol.Kids are all well and so they are off to school in an hour or so.Christmas prezzies are nearly all bought just some stocking fillers and one prezzie for ys to buy.Hubby is off work today so I might nip into town and have a look round to get it finished.Do need to buy a shedload of wrapping paper though and thankfully this year with all the tinies being at school I can wrap them up before Christmas Eve.I always used to end up wrapping prezzies at midnight on Christmas Eve every other year!

Domestic wise I've some bread rolls to make and muffins for lunchboxes.Might make some magic buns too as the kids like them and a batch of currant buns will go down well with OH.Washing and Ironing are pretty much up to date

Tea tonight is Baked Potatoes with Tuna and Cheese so nothing that requires a lot of work.I've got some sad apples and plums that I'll stew and turn into a crumble for pud

MSD-Great news about the parking ticket. It shows persistence pays off

N9eav-IMO Ebay is not good at the moment. Most sellers take their time to post items so you are unusual posting out immediately.I've had to wait weeks for some items!

  • Morning all!
Sorry I've not been on for a few days but I seem to have been really busy but I'm not at work until thursday next week now so plenty of time for myself and getting jobs done and reading and posting on here of course.
Whole house needs cleaning, presents for dd that I got last friday are still hidden in the car boot and need to be brought in and hidden, need to do more christmas shopping and am considering going to another hospital in the trust I work for for flu jabs. I wouldn't normally be bothered but my dad has a lung condition and has just had an infusion for his RA which will lower his immunity for 4 months so can't have flu jabs, so I'd rather have mine and cut down his risk of contracting it. It will however probably take most of the morning to get there, ait for jabs and get home again. I just wish they were organised and able to tell me when they will be visiting my hospital again-but thats the NHS for you-(well how it treats it's employees anyway!!!)
Hoping that the weather here isn't too bad later as its 'lights on' night in our town so I'm taking dd for the first time-apparently it gets very busy so I hope we can find the friends we are supposed to be meeting.
Just trying to get dd to choose what sandwich filling she would like for her packed lunch-oh jam apparently, she'll get lots of fruit and a hm choccie bun too. I tend to keep a pot of apricots in her lunchbox and she ate all 8 of them yesterday-not surprisingly she had a lot of wind by teatime!!LOL!
Tea will be breaded chicken out of the freezer (bought ages ago!) with jacket spuds and salad for me, brocoli for dd.
I hope everyone is as well as can be.
Hugs for those that would like one.

    Morning all

Have woken up to dry but still windy weather! Have now done my two long days at work, all day Monday and Tuesday so just a half day today then my "paid" working week is done and I come home and start again with the "unpaid" work - but don't really mind either as I'm lucky enough to enjoy my job and I like pottering about at home to. Am sticking to the mneu plan and this week we have had Smoked Sausage with pasta in a creme fraiche sauce and last night had fish, jacket pots with either baked beans or green beans and peas. I remember to get the chicken out of the freezer so tonight will be roast chicken, pots and veg with leftover chicken used tomorrow night for chicken with rice and veg stir-fry thingy! And of course chicken carcass used to make a pot of chicken stock to freeze.

Must really get to grips with the Xmas stuff but this week didn't get off to a good start with dad being so poorly - brain wasn't really in gear. He is still poorly but a bit brighter but has a Drs appt today so hoping that this makes him feel like something is actually being done! My OH nan had her big cancer op yesterday and we had a telephone call to say that op went well and they had already removed all the breathing tubes and she was breathing on her own - she's a tough old bird but at 83 years old, we worried how she would cope with the op but so far so good! I think recovery will be long and slow though. So we have at least had some good news this week. Saw a very young couple as part of my job yesterday who have just lost their son he was only a small baby and they are completely devastated - makes you realise how lucky you are and that there's always someone worse off than yourself!

Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.
