If i am right in understanding the OP cant even get into windows, cause the HDD s failed, so that fix is no good.

Your lucky day, still in warranty (in fact there are two warranty dates given-one of 15/1/10 and one of 15/4/10?). It's collect and return too, so you're laughing, as long as you have backed up.
    And I see it's a pink one!
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Yeah, PINK LOL

I posted the early date, as then you are doubly certain that one is correct, cause normally have two when it has gone back in, and they extended it to cover, but aways best to get it in before the first date.

Yeah OP isnt too worried about data, said earlier, she had backups, lucky really, i always run out of warranty, lol

Not sure why it has 2 warranty dates? I thought maybe one referred to a supplementary item like a printer? But none listed. Anyway, it's still 7 weeks inside even on the earlier date.

OP, I see you are trying to run Vista on 1GB of RAM, which is seriously underpowered. When you get it back, go to www.crucial.com and order another 1GB of RAM from them, it won't cost much and will greatly improve your performance. No way should Dell have been selling 1GB systems with Vista as late as Jan 09.
Edit: £22.76 for extra 1GB or £34 for extra 2GB.
