desperately seeking some help

Ok so I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop, had it just over a year so sods law just out of warranty. Tried to boot it up with a cd rom in it and it is saying my hard drive has failed, or something similar, when i run the diagnostics test through the boot menu the code is 0146 which i believe is a general hard drive code.
I am more than willing to restore my computer but this leads to another difficulty, when i put the cd rom (start up disk/ operating systems), push F12 select the cd/dvd option, then comes a screen that says push any button to start the disk, which i do.... and then it says windows loading files with a bar, once the bar is full up it goes to a blank screen and does nothing.........
If I push F8 during start up and select repair my computer it then goes to a default screen that gives me the option to start windows repair (which if you select it just keeps coming back to the same scrren) or start normally, if you click start normally it just stays for hours on the the loading bar with microsoft corporation....
AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Help please, cant afford a new computer and desperately need it for work
Thanks in advance

    thanks
  • If the hard disk has failed, restoring the operating system to it will be impossible. You need to replace it.

If the actual hardware - ie your hard disk - has failed and cannot be used then you can't restore Windows on it.

Let's start at the beginning. Take the CD out. What is the actual error message?
  • dell error message 2000-0146 when i run diagnostics... but as far as I can find out that just indicates hard wear
thank you for seeing what you can do

According to this, it's "a failed hard drive or bad drive sector" which means it's probably kaput.

Can you run CHKDSK from the Recovery Console?

What is the error message that Windows is saying, not Dell diagnostics? Or do you not get as far as Windows?
  • how do i access the recovery console??

The Code means the Internal Hard Drive has packed up.

If the machine is under warranty, they they will send a replacement, or repair it.

If not, then you will need to replace the hard drive yourself.

Hope you have made regular backups, as you cant always retrive the data even when hooking it up as a slave in another configuration.
    Awaiting Inspiration......................

You wont be able to restore to factory system setup or reinstall windows as you dont have a working hard drive for it to write to, that is why it is stopping halfway through a recovery procedure

  • windows just comes up with windows error message, due to a change in software/ hardwarde windows has failed to start up; then gives 2 options, 1) start windows repair 2) start as normal. If you click windows repair the screen goes blank then back to the windows error message, if you click start as normal you are left with a loading bar forever
