New ISP and Phone?

Just had a look at IDNet and they look quite pricey for not a huge amount of download.
I see that line rentals are included in the price which starts to make IDNet more attractive.
Been looking at the Sky terms and conditions and they are "very vague" on throttling and shaping which is a pity. Their pricing is however very attractive though.0 -
Don't think sky have usenet access, although obviously available through other people.
They are vague because they supply two services, one via LLU (read up), and other via BT.
As they are bound by BT's T&Cs they have to shape and throttle where BT say so (technically it's not done like that but has the same effect).
LLU on the other hand, I have been over the 40GB limit many a times and never had a letter, and never been throttled. Although not sure they would throttle SSL connections.0 -

Sky is only worthwhile if your exchange is LLU enabled, otherwise they are not cheap and not very good, check your exchange at;

IDNet has a 30 day contract with both Broadband and Telephone, their inclusive phone deals come with caller display, 0870 and 0845 numbers 24/7 and a lot of International numbers included. etc. etc.0 -
Have just looked at my exchange LLU stats and as far as I can see the only operator to be using it is Talk Talk but Sky have not taken it up yet.
This LLU thingy is confusing me?0 -
Basically it means that an operator can run their own systems via your BT Line, without the need to use BT systems, all very confusing, but it usually means that they are cheaper, however I would not advise that you or anyone else uses Talk Talk.0

Unfortunately Nildram is now part of Talk Talk.
OK so if I'm still part of BT network can BT then affect my download speeds (ie would be beyond the control of my ISP)?0 -
The distance that you are from your telephone exchange dictates the speed that you will get, amongst other factors.
Some ISP's deliberately throttle speeds as well.0 -
Nowt wrong with TalkTalk - been with them since the beginning and not had any issues. Great service via the forums - dodgy customer service by phone though.Mags - who loves shopping0

So they are " OK " but provide a " dodgy service by phone " a forum isn't much help if your BB is down.
Or am I missing something?:rolleyes:0
