If you use conti board and plastic joints , still would recommend a backing piece to
keep the structure rigid. But I don't like conti board ( or those plastic joints )
Like the idea of plaster board, easy to work and cheap , but MDF too expensive.
Door must be hung on wall furthest from stairs , otherwise a more solid post is required . I still think that if we get a working door , the rest is easy ,
The cupboard is in the hall and will be very conspicuous.0 -
No roof , ok but you might need something to brace the cupboard wall ??0

I claim the prize for the worst sketch in history .
I think it looks odd, not my sketch :rotfl: but the freestanding cupboard
Fill the bit above the door ,0 -
MDF may be expensive but its easy to work with and made a great wardrobe/shelves/work table for my son's room. The main thing is to get good quality fittings for the door fittings etc. and shelf brackets. To cut it you really need a good circular saw and bench though. Oh and a router helps to round the edges so it doesn't look too boxy...For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

yes, that picture is right.
yes, i need a roof made of wood, or whatever for the top, i dont want a topless cupboard!!
yes, the door will be opening flat to the wall on the right and i want a nice door that sort of matches the doors in the hallway and i think ive found it, although misread the dimensions and thought it was going to be £12 but is infact £71!!!
i cant find a door in the diy stores that are the right size and this comes painted and stuff in the finish of your choice.0 -

well the thing is im allergic to anything that looks 'fitted', its only cos we are short of money that im even having a fitted kitchen, i hate fitted furniture, so thought that i would prefer this to something that is 'boxed in'.0
